Here’s how you can customize your character’s appearance in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Compared to other animal types, there isn’t much bird representation in the greater Sanrio multiverse. However, it’s still possible to find some memorable faces. You might even find your favorite character on this list, so here’s a roll call of the best bird friends Sanrio has to offer.

8

Uncle Scotch

Uncle Scotch the wizard owl speaks to Hello Kitty and her sister in Hello Kitty Ringo no Mori.

Hello Kitty has starred in several animated series over the years, including the 2006 anime Hello Kitty: Ringo no Mori. While many episodes involve birds, most of them are relegated to bit characters. Painfully generic, these birdies act as a plot device for one episode only to never be mentioned again.

Not Uncle Scotch, however. He appears in multiple episodes of Ringo no Mori, where he imparts his owly wisdom to the younger generations. He’s also a wizard (with a cool hat to match his cool name), and is easily one of the most powerful characters in the show.

PataPataPeppy

Patapatapeppy the owl stands against a pink and blue gradient backdrop.

The late 1980s and early 1990s saw the introduction of a lot of memorable Sanrio characters. Patapatapeppy made his debut in 1992, and he’s placed in every popularity contest since then. While his popularity has faded somewhat in recent years, he’s still perfectly adorable.

A nervous young owl, Patapatapeppy used to live in the woods before a series of misadventures led him into a human house, where he lives to this very day. Despite owls being birds of prey, Patapatapeppy seems to be a vegetarian, subsisting mostly on fruits and nuts.

6

Dachonosuke

It’s a shame that this character hasn’t gotten much love since his debut in the 1980s, as he’s easily one of the most unique animal characters Sanrio has created. Dachonosuke is a fearless ostrich reporter, presumably bucking his species’ stereotype of sticking their heads in the sand.

It’s always spooky season in the swamp.

Dachonosuke is probably the most obscure character on this list, as he’s never ranked above 80th place in any of Sanrio’s popularity contests over the years. This unfortunate set of circumstances has prevented him from marrying his girlfriend Dachomi, as he stated he would do so if he managed to rank above 60th place in 2013.

Shakipiyo

Shakipiyo is Gudetama’s brother, but the two can’t be more different. Unlike his eggy, unfertilized sibling, Shakipiyo was fertilized, allowing him to ascend from egg to bird. He hatched while still in his egg carton, and even wears the shell of his former home as clothing.

With a can-do attitude, Shakipiyo is ready to take on the world, despite only having just been born. Despite their differences, Shakipiyo deeply cares for his sibling Gudetama, even fashioning them a cart made of an eggshell and buttons in one episode of the Netflix show.

4

Pekkle

Pekkle has been part of Sanrio’s character roster for a long time, having made his first debut in 1989. His character concept is pretty simple: he’s a kind-hearted young lad who lives in Australia and enjoys tap dancing. It’s just that he’s also a duck, much in the same way that Hello Kitty is a little girl who’s also a cat.

Despite his simplicity, Pekkle has placed respectably in Sanrio’s annual popularity contests for years. He’s particularly popular in Singapore and Hong Kong. With all that staying power, it’s not surprising that he’s one of the characters you can befriend in Hello Kitty: Island Adventure.

3

Tuxedo Sam

Tuxedo is a handsome blue penguin from Antarctica’s Tuxedo Island. Unlike the feral gremlin that is Badtz-Maru, this dapper young fellow is a distinguished gentleman, complete with a college degree and an entire wardrobe full of top hats and bow ties.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure: Hangyodon Character Guide

Hangyodon is a fishy character in Hello Kitty Island Adventure that lives under the sea. Here, you can learn how to find and befriend him.

Tuxedo Sam made his first debut in 1979 and has waxed and waned in popularity over the years. Currently, he’s experiencing a bit of a comeback. Along with other characters on this list, he made an appearance in Hello Kitty: Island Adventure as one of the characters you can befriend.

2

Badtz-Maru

If you grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s, you’ve probably seen this lovable scamp on many a Geocities page. Bad Badtz-Maru was born on April Fool’s Day and appeals to devious little goblins of all ages and genders. Like Kuromi, he’s rude and full of attitude, which is why we love him.

Sure, he’s not as popular as Hello Kitty, but he consistently places well in every popularity contest. Badtz- Maru is also one of the many characters you can meet in Hello Kitty: Island Adventure, which is great news for longtime fans of this feral penguin.

1

Washimi

Ever since its debut on Netflix, the Aggretsuko anime has been a fun departure from Sanrio’s usual child-friendly works. Washimi, Retsuko’s coworker, is a secretary bird who’s also a literal secretary. She’s a strong, independent bird and a role model for Retsuko in the earlier episodes.

Secretary birds are one of the coolest avian species to exist in real life, so it’s no surprise that Washimi is one of the most memorable characters in the show. Along with her friend Gori, this girlboss brings a breath of fresh air to Retsuko’s otherwise stifling work environment.
