Avowed's Achievements Are Full Of Fallout Easter Eggs

Summary

  • Avowed’s achievement names reference many past Obsidian games, including Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.
  • There are a bunch of other references too, including some to Fallout 4, Pokemon, and even Lazy Town.

Avowed has a bunch of references hidden away in its achievement names, with many named after previous Obsidian games. From The Outer Worlds to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Obsidian has included nods to so much of its previous work, with a lot of deep cuts hidden away in there.

However, and perhaps to little surprise, there are quite a few Fallout references in there too. This includes the game it developed, Fallout: New Vegas, but also a nod to Bethesda‘s Fallout 4, although some of them might not be super obvious at first.

Here Are Some Of The Games Referenced In Avowed’s Achievements

Oh, and Lazy Town is here, for some reason

First up, Fallout. The first one on the list comes from Fallout 4, with a secret achievement called Everyone Disliked That. This pops up in Fallout 4 if you manage to upset multiple companions, and a screenshot of the message quickly became a running gag online.

Then, we have multiple New Vegas references. Two of them allude to songs that play on the radio, Jingle, Jangle, Jingle and Big Iron On Your Hip. The other is a bit more niche: Two Bears High-Fiving. This is a reference to the test you complete at the beginning of the game, where you’re shown a series of images and have to say what they remind you of. Many players through the final image looked like two bears high-fiving, so much so that this was modded in as an option. Obisidan later gave this a shout-out with a DLC character called Two-Bears-High-Fiving, and now it lives on in Avowed.

Elsewhere, many achievements are just the names of other series that Obsidian has worked on. These achievements include: Pathfinder, Pillars of Eternity, Dungeon Siege, Alpha Strike Protocol, Tyranny, Pentiment, and Grounded. There’s even a shout-out to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, with an achievement called Kith Lord. It’s also possible that Reverse Card is a nod to the card game Pazaak that featured prominently in KOTOR 2.

Now all it needs is a dedicated kick button.

Then, we have some references to other media entirely. Cooking By The Book is seemingly named after a song from the show Lazy Town, of all things. That Sign Can’t Stop Me Because I Can’t Read is from the show Arthur. And Gotta Cache ‘Em All is, well… I’m sure I don’t need to say.

This isn’t even getting into the references in the game itself. As one fan already spotted, there’s a Mass Effect easter egg in the form of one of Kai’s lines, since he’s voiced by the same actor who played Garrus. There’s bound to be more tucked away as fans keep playing.
