Every crew member in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii is not created equally, as their abilities can vary heavily across three key factors. A crew member’s Squad Leader Trait, First Mate Trait, and overall stat rankings from S to E help determine just how useful each character will be on the Goromaru.

These are the keys to stacking cash for all those upgrades.
However, despite the several-letter rankings given to each crew member, our Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii tier lists are much simpler, separating the good from the bad in straightforward terms. Since there’s not an entire gacha game dedicated to crew members, you should be able to recruit most of the best crew members without too much difficulty.
Tier Level Explanation
Given the relatively few available crew in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, the skills of these options are compressed into two Traits and four stats ranging from S to E.
This means that it’s clear to tell which attackers stand out as the best thanks to higher-level caps as there are not an overwhelming number of choices.
Given the relatively small roster of potential crew, there are only three tiers needed to group them accurately:
- S-Tier
- A-Tier
- All Other-Tier
S-Tier crew members stand out as unique thanks to special Squad Leader Traits, a level 50 cap, a majority of S-Tier stats, or a combination of the three factors. One S-tier stat is the minimum.
A-Tier crew members are excellent additions to any squad, and while they may only cap out at level 30, or have mainly A-tier stats – possibly one S-tier – they’re still capable of doing a job wherever you place them.
All other crew are likely to have a level cap of 20, and might not even have any additional traits. Ideally, they have at least one specialty, with a single A-tier stat that makes it simple to place them in their niche. This category does not include every other crew member in this category, just a select few worth mentioning.
There are very few exceptions to these rules, and you generally only want to use S or A-Tier crew members as you continue upgrading the Goromaru to the best it can be.
Keep in mind that Alo-Happy can only be unlocked by completing photo rallies. All other pirates are available on the map with their unlock requirements or are earned via story progress, like Minami.
S-Tier Attackers
These are the best Attacker pirate crew in PYIH, featuring some of the strongest traits and stats in the game.
Name |
Tier |
Explanation |
---|---|---|
Masaru |
S+ |
Masaru stands out from the crowd, as his only weakness is a subpar First Mate Trait, However, Masaru’s talents would be wasted in that position, so make use of his excellent Squad Leader Trait and S-tier stats on one of your four Boarding Squad parties. |
Daisaku Minami |
S+ |
Much like Masaru, Minami is one of the most well-rounded crew in the game, and Minami even boasts a solid First Mate Trait that increases damage to enemy sterns. However, four S-tier stats make Minami best suited for a role on the Boarding Squad. |
Julie |
S |
Julie is a repair specialist, so she’s unsurprisingly more suited to life among your Cannon Squad than anything. While her Traits are solid enough to fill in at any position, Julie’s best behind a cannon, so try to reserve her spot there. |
Dread Pirate Hook |
S |
On the flip side, Dread Pirate Hook is much more suited to an Attack Role in your Boarding Squad, and can even fill in as a Squad Leader during the early game. |
A-Tier Attackers
The A-tier Attackers are extremely solid and worthy of a spot in your crew formation, but they won’t be your standout stars.
Name |
Tier |
Explanation |
---|---|---|
Rafael |
A+ |
Rafael is arguably the most well-rounded A-tier Attacker unless you need a First Mate. Despite his lack of a First Mate Trait, if you’re looking for raw power, then nobody else in this tier will equal Rafael. |
Kazami Evolution |
A+ |
Kazami Evolution earns a slight edge over Rafael in the flexibility department, boasting a First Mate and Squad Leader Trait if you’re in a pinch. |
Carnal Sister Yoh |
A |
What Carnal Sister Yoh lacks in versatility, she makes up for in power, as this Attacker nearly equals Rafael’s damage output, but falls just short. |
Alo-Happy |
A |
Alo-Happy and Carnal Sister Yoh are essentially carbon copies that can do an excellent job on your Boarding Crew. |
All Other Attackers
Unfortunately, it’s best to avoid using many of the other Attackers, especially given the variety of powerful options in the upper tiers.
Name |
Tier |
Explanation |
---|---|---|
Hattori The Ninja |
B+ |
Hattori the Ninja is still useful, but he misses out on the upper tier due to a slightly lackluster stat spread compared to the choices above him. |
Bug Professor Louis |
B |
Unfortunately, Bug Professor Louis is useful in the very early game if you’re able to get him a Golden Dragonfly, but he’s just not worth the hassle overall. |
