Summary

  • The Skyblivion team is unfazed by rumors of an official Oblivion remake, explaining that the idea ‘doesn’t affect’ the project.
  • Skyblivion, a full remake of Oblivion in Skyrim, is expected to be released in 2025.
  • The official Oblivion remake remains a rumor for now.

A recent interview with the project lead of the Skyblivion mod revealed that the team is not worried about the rumors of an official Oblivion remake. Skyblivion is one of the most noteworthy Skyrim mods in the making right now due to its ambitious plan to remake Oblivion, and the team seems confident that the project will be completed soon.

In development since 2012, Skyblivion started as an Oblivion port to Skyrim and has evolved into a full remake since then. The project is nearly complete, and a release is expected sometime in 2025. Last year, rumors of an official Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake started to surface, and the game’s existence has seemed increasingly likely recently.

NPCs in the Rumored Oblivion Remake Would Have One Big Hurdle to Clear

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake rumors haven’t indicated details about a key point that may make or break the success of the remake.

Recently, VG247 interviewed Kyle ‘Rebelzize’ Rebel, the project lead of Skyblivion, who talked about how the rumored official Oblivion remake could affect the fan-made project. “I think whether the rumors are true or not doesn’t affect us much,” said Rebel. Even if the remake comes out, Skyblivion is not trying to make a profit, and another remake may give fans more reason to try out the team’s iteration of the game. If the rumors are not true, then Skyblivion will remain the best way to re-experience Oblivion. Rebel also revealed that Skyblivion even being in a releasable state feels like a miracle, as there were at least four times when the project could have easily been “wrecked,” so the team members are very excited to see their hard work finally pay off in the coming months.

Skyblivion Creators Don’t Think of the Rumored Oblivion Remake as a Problem

I think whether the rumors (of the Oblivion remake) are true or not doesn’t affect us much.

Earlier this year, the team behind Skyblivion released a comprehensive development update, showing how near the project is to completion. By then, most of the world’s landscaping was complete, as were the interiors, quests, and 3D models. However, there were still many details to be fine-tuned ahead of launch. In any case, the development update pointed out that there’s a fair chance that gamers could play the complete Skyblivion soon.

Rumors about the Oblivion remake are also continuing to appear. Some of the most recent whispers indicate that the game will be launched in June 2025 and that the official Oblivion remake will feature a blocking system inspired by Soulslike games, which would greatly change the gameplay. Despite these features, the title would not be turned into a Soulslike, according to this leak. Obviously, all rumors about the official Oblivion remake are just speculation at this point, but their prevalence could make it plausible that the project exists and will be out sometime this year.
