Summary

  • Kiryu is clearly the strongest Yakuza character, but fans have wondered who takes the silver medal.
  • The likeliest candidates are Taiga Saejima and Goro Majima, something that’s settled in Pirate Yakuza.
  • At one point in the game, the two get into a no-holds-barred fight that shows who’s really on top.

Thanks to Majima’s story-centric amnesia, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii finally confirms who is stronger out of him and Taiga Saejima.

Ever since the series started, Like a Dragon has been all about strong guys who love ripping their shirts off and getting into brawls. No matter if you’re playing Kiryu’s more action-focused titles or Ichiban’s Dragon Quest-esque adventures, you don’t have to go far to see a shirt launched into the air and for fists to start flying.

We see Majima at his lowest, but then get to witness him rise to his finest.

While everyone in Like a Dragon is unbelievably strong and has proven their worth in battle time and time again, fans have always debated which Yakuza member is the strongest of them all. Although Kiryu obviously gets a lot of the votes after everything he’s been through, there are cases to be made for Majima and Saejima.

Mild spoiler warning for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii below. You’ve been warned, matey.

Majima And Saejima Finally Have A Proper Fight In Pirate Yakuza

Majima and Saejima about to fight in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

With Kiryu beating the snot out of Majima and Saejima on numerous occasions, it’s pretty clear that he’s stronger than the pair of them, but that does raise the question of who’s in second place. Well, it seems that Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has a good answer for that, as the score has finally been settled.

Around the mid-point of Pirate Yakuza, Majima ends up running into Taiga Saejima, who questions him about where he’s been and what he’s up to. Since Majima is suffering from amnesia, he doesn’t have an answer for Saejima and doesn’t even know who he is which, as you can imagine, leads to a fight between the two.

Before the battle, Saejima even notes that Majima’s amnesia means they can finally “settle who’s better” out of the two of them, something that comes to pass with Majima beating the ex-Saejima Family Patriarch with relative ease. The two eventually make up, but it’s made pretty clear that Majima has eclipsed Saejima’s power, and had no reason to hold back on him.

This would suggest that Majima is the second strongest out of the main Like a Dragon characters, since Saejima clearly isn’t able to hold his own against him in a no-holds-barred fight. Now we just need to know where Ichiban stands on the tier list, and we’ll have a good idea of who the series’ strongest character really is.
