Path of Exile has seen a major resurgence following the Legacy of Phrecia event, reaching a peak of 91,977 concurrent users on Steam. Path of Exile had remained in the shadows as most of the attention was focused on its sequel, but the recent event released by Grinding Gear Games has turned things around, even surpassing PoE 2‘s concurrent player count.
Path of Exile 1 paved the way for PoE 2, a refined and more advanced version of Grinding Gear Games’ highly popular free-to-play RPG. Initially, PoE 2 was planned as an expansion for the first game, but the development team soon realized it needed to become a full-fledged sequel to reach its full potential. As PoE 2’s early access release date drew closer, GGG had to allocate almost all of its resources to the sequel to ensure every aspect of the game was covered. Unfortunately, this led to delays in the content GGG had promised to fans of the first game.

Within just 24 hours, the game reached a peak of 91,977 concurrent players on Steam, surpassing PoE 2’s 87,222 concurrent players. These figures show that interest in the first game hasn’t faded despite the hype around its sequel. Even though players didn’t get what they really wanted—PoE update 3.26—they still flocked to the game to try out the event, sending a clear message to GGG.
Path of Exile Hits 91,977 Concurrent Players on Steam
The Path of Exile Legacy of Phrecia event kicked off on February 20, replacing the game’s 19 Ascendancy classes with new ones. In addition, players can claim the Havenwood Cloak through Twitch drops, while an Autumn Knight armor piece is awarded every 20 levels, up to level 80.
Fans had been growing impatient for PoE 1 news, frequently asking GGG on social media about the long-awaited update 3.26. In response, the game’s director, Jonathan Rogers, announced yet another delay. In a video, he explained how challenging it has been for the studio to work on both games, especially considering some of the issues PoE 2’s early access launch faced. Rogers admitted that the studio’s main priority is now the sequel, but development on the update will begin once PoE 2 patch 0.2.0 is released. The success of the Legacy of Phrecia event is a clear sign that players are eager for more PoE 1 content.
