  • A new update for Dynasty Warriors: Origins adds the Gold Serpent Spear for the Year of the Snake celebration.
  • Bug fixes include corrected officer highlighting and an addressed Azure Dragon Bellow Battle Art strength issue.

Koei Tecmo has released a new update for Dynasty Warriors: Origins across platforms, addressing some bugs while also adding and adjusting certain features. This marks the third major patch the game has received since its launch. One of the additions in version 1.003 is a new weapon in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, celebrating the Lunar Year of the Snake.

Dynasty Warriors is one of the industry’s most classic hack ‘n slash series, with its prominence even leading to the creation of a whole game style known as musou. Developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo, the series spans more than ten titles split between mainline entries and spinoffs. With Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Omega Force aimed to bring new players in, and it seems to have worked, as Dynasty Warriors: Origins broke sales records, giving a new lease on life to the series that adapts the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins has now received a new update, fixing several bugs while also adding new features. One of the highlights is the addition of the Gold Serpent Spear in celebration of the Year of the Snake. Once players obtain their first Lance-type weapon, they will receive a letter at their base containing the golden spear, which, despite its name, is also categorized as a Lance. Other additions include the Rumor Settings, which either reduce the frequency of rumors appearing on the world map or silence them altogether, as well as a frame skip setting in the graphics menu.

Regarding bug fixes, the update corrected an issue where officers remained highlighted even when the option was disabled, another where the Incense of Vitality item failed to heal nearby allies, and one where the strength of the Azure Dragon Bellow, one of the Battle Arts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, did not increase along with its upgrades. Other minor bugs were mentioned but not detailed in the patch notes. Lastly, controller buttons were labeled according to the standard layout seen on the PS5 DualSense.

Before the release of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Koei Tecmo announced that Dynasty Warriors 10 had been canceled, stating that it wanted to create something more in line with the technology of the new consoles. This allowed Omega Force to develop a game featuring a traveling system and a stronger focus on the Three Kingdoms-era narrative, even if it meant players would only control a single character rather than the expansive cast the series is known for.

The strategy paid off, and Dynasty Warriors: Origins became the fastest-selling game in the franchise. This success could influence future releases, shifting the series away from the traditional large-scale battlefields with thousands of enemy hordes in favor of the format seen in Origins. The latest game incorporated more RPG elements, including an overworld and a stronger narrative focus. Dynasty Warriors: Origins features multiple endings, which are triggered depending on how players tackle some objectives in battle.
