Summary

  • Bosses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are not differentiated by combat difficulty but by narrative importance.
  • Some boss encounters are easy, like Istvan Toth, while others, like Zizka, present a challenge.
  • Strategy in boss fights involves exploiting weaknesses and making tactical choices for optimal play.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 doesn’t take a traditional approach to its bosses. Bosses don’t tend to differentiate themselves from standard one-on-one encounters, and you can often use similar strategies to defeat them than you would a normal enemy.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – 8 Best Armor Pieces

Make sure Henry is fully protected with these armor pieces.

Instead, the bosses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 hold their boss status thanks to their importance in the narrative and the stakes that the fight holds. While some of these encounters in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can be pushovers, others are a challenge, but which is the hardest?

Istvan Toth

Long Time Coming

Istvan Toth looking out his window before duelling Henry in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Henry’s aggression towards Istvan Toth has carried over from the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and while you don’t get a chance to take him head on in that game, the sequel finally gives Henry the chance to get his revenge, and reclaim his father’s sword.

While the build-up to the fight with Istvan Toth is intense, and the cutscene before features some of the best acting in the game, the fight is admittedly pretty easy. The biggest challenge is actually the space itself, with it being a pretty cramped room. But Toth isn’t much of a fighter and goes down easy, and if you’re not worried about being dishonourable, you can choose to skip the fight completely and assassinate him before even entering combat.

Christopher

Sibling Rivalry

Christopher berating Godwin in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

For most of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you’ll be in control of Henry, but there are a few missions where you instead control Godwin, a messenger who was sent to check up on Henry and Hans Capon, but ends up getting entangled in the whole mess of the plot.

During one of Godwin’s missions, he’ll be in charge of networking at a party of Wenceslas supporters, looking to gain allies. However, in one of these conversations he’ll get caught up in the wrath of his half-brother Christopher, and will quickly have to face him in a duel. While you might struggle a little controlling Godwin instead of Henry, luckily he isn’t too difficult to get a handle on. It also helps that Christopher severely underestimates the much older Godwin, giving the priest an easier time defeating him.

Hans Capon

Tough Training

You wouldn’t expect a tutorial to be too hard, but given the unexpected complexity of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s combat, your first training fight against Hans Capon in the game’s prologue can be a challenge if you aren’t prepared.

Here are the best perks in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2!

If you’re coming into Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 fresh off a playthrough of the first, this friendly fight shouldn’t give you too much trouble. However, if you’re new, the duel could be over before you can even process the tutorial. The fight isn’t too tricky if you manage to learn risposting. However, since stamina management is such a crucial element of combat (which you likely aren’t aware of during this tutorial), you can lose even if you learn what the duel is trying to teach.

5

Michael

The Choice Is Yours

Talking to Michael before your duel in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

In one of the more surreal sections of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry and Hans Capon will be welcomed into Nebakov castle, and while Capon will be stuck chatting noble business with the (supposed) lord of the castle, Henry will be funneled through a set of suspicious activities set up by the castle’s residents.

One such activity is a duel with the friendly captain of the guard, Michael. Michael is no easy fight, and if you do manage to beat him you’ll be given a worthwhile reward, but you’ll have to work for it. The main advantage Henry gets is choosing the weapons that they’ll both be using, but even then you’ll still struggle if you haven’t perfected combat at this point in the game.

4

Lord Jan Semine

Hands On Networking

Henry duelling Lord Jan Semine in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Depending on whether you choose to help the miller or the blacksmith to gain entrance to the Semine wedding, you might miss the chance to duel Lord Jan Semine altogether. However, if you’ve aligned yourself with the blacksmith, you’ll do this fight during the side quest The Jaunt.

In spite of the lord’s age, he still very much knows his way around his trusty mace, and as a break from their horse ride, he’ll challenge Henry to a duel amidst their investigation together. Since this is one of the earliest duels in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there’s a good chance that you’ll struggle here, since Lord Semine is a pretty aggressive foe in what should be a friendly fight.

3

Zizka

Henry’s Last Chance

Zizka brandishing his sword before duelling Henry in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

One of the bosses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 that is given the most build-up and stakes is against Zizka, held in the wake of the absolute defeat Von Bergow’s initial attack on Nebakov castle faces. As one of the last surviving members of Bergow’s forces, Henry is left face to face with Nebakov’s leader, Zizka.

These minigames will help pass the time and make mundane tasks enjoyable in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

While those who’ve gotten further know that Zizka will end up as an ally to Henry and Hans, that friendly face is nowhere in sight. He challenges Henry to a duel, where his life will be spared if he proves himself to be a worthwhile fighter, and doing so is no easy task.

2

Tomcat

Consider Cheating

Tomcat standing in the middle of the woods.

While standing on the borderline of a boss and just another duel, Tomcat’s level of challenge is what makes him rank so highly. You’ll be made aware of Tomcat’s presence in the Nomads’ Camp almost as soon as the prologue’s complete, so you might assume that learning from him is something you should do as soon as possible, but this really isn’t recommended.

Even though Tomcat will teach you some fantastic techniques to make sword fighting easier for the rest of the game, learning his best technique (the Master Strike) will require beating him in a duel. With him having the skill at his disposal, and Henry not, the fight is borderline impossible, especially with Henry’s early-game armor. However, Tomcat made the mistake of settling right next to the Nomad Camp’s potion seller, so if Henry splurges on some Bane poison to coat his sword, all it takes is one hit on Tomcat and then to just wait him out for an easily exploitable boss fight.

1

Erik

Equivalent Final Boss

Erik sitting alone before his duel in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

The lengthy plot of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 sets up plenty of antagonists that are easy to hate, but perhaps the passionate rivalry Henry has is with Erik. Right before taking down Istvan Toth around halfway through the story, Henry will see that his (soon-to-be-dead) nemesis has a romantic connection to high-ranking soldier Erik. It only gets worse when, in Maleshov, Henry spies on the moment Erik is informed of his lover’s death, when he’s angry enough to kill the dog that is unfortunately sitting nearby.

This loathing of Henry all culminates in a formal challenge to a duel at the abandoned Sigismund Camp near the end of the game. Henry can choose whether to skip this challenging encounter altogether, and part of the decision-making process includes asking all the friendly faces at Suchdol what they would do in Henry’s position.

Amidst the varying-in-quality advice, Henry gets the best idea from Zizka, to rile up Erik by taunting him before the fight. If Henry follows this suggestion before the epic encounter begins, Erik will be a lot more sloppy during the fight, making victory a lot more achievable.
