Released in September 2024, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP recently celebrated a huge milestone, celebrating 200,000 sales in its first three months on shelves. The original title has become a cult classic in the years since its release, with the Grasshopper Manufacture-developed title boasting memorable hack-and-slash gameplay and the adorable protagonist, Juliet Starling. Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Adding Nightmare Mode in April Update
While longtime fans of the zombie game have praised many aspects of the remaster, not all feedback has been positive. Shortly after the game’s release, Dragami Games responded to accusations of censorship in Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, and players have criticized the title’s poor optimization. Additionally, the majority of the original game’s iconic soundtrack is missing in RePOP, prompting outrage from those eager to hear the 2012 game’s rock hits. The absurd story and hard-hitting action remain, but many still hope that a future update will also improve the overall player experience.
While Goichi “Suda51” Suda didn’t return to work on Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the game designer has plenty on his to-do list. In August 2024, Suda expressed interest in reviving Killer7 alongside Shinji Mikami, with the 2005 action-adventure game still finding popularity in the current day. The pair collaborated on Shadows of the Damned in 2011, with a recent remaster of the title bringing the pair of famed devs back together again. Suda is also working on Hotel Barcelona, a “2.5D slasher film parodic action” game that is scheduled to be released sometime in early 2025.
