Summary
- Logia Devil Fruits were once the most powerful, but the introduction of Haki weakened them.
- An Awakening for Logia Fruits can possibly make them as strong as Mythical Zoans.
- A Logia Awakening could transform the environment to the user’s element, enhancing their power.
Devil Fruits are the backbone of the One Piece power system. Even today, where they’ve relatively been put on the back burner in comparison to Haki, they are still arguably the most important items in the entire series aside from the fabled One Piece treasure itself. Coming in 3 unique categories, these fruits can bestow upon their users some incredible and fantastical powers that range from laughably weak to strong enough to destroy the world.
Generally, Logia types are considered to be some of the most powerful Devil Fruits. However, as of late, they have greatly diminished in importance and power as compared to the initial parts of One Piece, and now, most of the strongest Devil Fruits shown are typically Mythical Zoans or Paramecia types. So, let’s go over how Logia Devil Fruits can be made just as strong as the others as One Piece enters its Final Saga.

At the beginning of the One Piece story, Logia Devil Fruits were unmatched in terms of their power, defense, and all-around versatility. These Devil Fruits allow their users to fully manifest the abilities of a natural element, not only summoning and controlling the element on a molecular scale, but also becoming the element themselves. This intangibility means that they are completely impervious to normal attacks, which was shown with Luffy only beating Crocodile and Enel due to hyper-specific reasons related to their elements.
However, many fans, and Oda himself, felt these Devil Fruits to be far too overpowered. So, Haki was introduced, which essentially acts as a way to bypass the intangibility of Logia fruits to hurt the real body of the user. This was the perfect answer to the invulnerability of Logia users but, in introducing it, made them noticeably weaker for the Final Saga of the series. Due to this, Logia users, while still incredibly powerful, have had the strongest aspect of their Devil Fruits pretty much become useless for anyone proficient enough with Haki.

How Logia Fruits Can Be Made Strong Again
An Awakening For Logia Users
Despite the current state of Logia fruits, there is a very clear way to bring them back to the forefront of power as equals to Mythical Zoan and Paramecia fruits. This is the concept of Devil Fruit Awakening, which essentially activates when the user of a Devil Fruit is inches away from death. When this happens, the Devil Fruits’ true power is unlocked and it can be used in a far more versatile manner, but the most notable aspect of an awakening is that the user can use their ability externally and on a much larger scale.
A perfect example of this is Luffy’s Gear 5, which was birthed from the awakening of his Devil Fruit. While Luffy could always use the rubber properties of his fruit in very creative ways, Gear 5 gave him the power to make external objects behave like rubber as well, as was seen in his fights against Kaido and Lucci. Another awesome example of this is Doflamingo, whose awakening allowed him to turn entire buildings into strings.
Devil Fruit abilities have a whole other stage to them. It’s called “Awakening”! Very rarely, an ability will ‘awaken’, and begin to affect things other than the user’s own body!
However, a Logia awakening has never been seen before, so fans have been going wild with speculation about how it could look. Regardless, an awakening of Logia fruits exists as the best way to make the users reach end-of-series level strength, enough to fight the most powerful characters in all of One Piece. By taking the already formidable power of Logia fruits and multiplying it on top of that, Logia fruit users can be made as dangerous as they once were.
But what would a Logia awakening look like? While there is no concrete evidence, most fans speculate that the answer lies in the battle between Aokiji and Akainu, which happened right after the Marineford War to see who would become the next Fleet Admiral. This was a grueling battle that took place over 10 days and completely destroyed Punk Hazard.
It was this destruction of the island that caught the eyes of fans. Many believe that both Admirals underwent Logia fruit awakenings, seeing how half the island was covered in an icy tundra and half of it was on fire. So, fans think that Logia fruit awakenings can change the environment around the user into an area that is made up of the user’s specific element. This falls perfectly in line with what is currently known about awakenings.
This would be an absolute game-changer and would more than bring Logia users to the highest level. By completely transforming their surrounding areas into an environment that can be completely controlled by them through their specific element, it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to go up against, even some of the strongest characters in the series. Logia fruits are incredibly powerful, and through such an awakening, they would be valuable assets in the Final Saga, perfectly standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the strongest Mythical Zoans and Paramecias.
