Quick Links
Considering how challenging some of the greens are on some of the courses in PGA Tour 2K25, you’ll need to plan your shots carefully. If you want to roll the ball back towards the hole, or make a drive kick up the fairway, you’ll want to add spin to your shots.

However, spinning the ball in PGA Tour 2K25 isn’t a simple process, nor is it something you can do after you’ve taken a shot, like you can in more arcadey golf games. You need to add spin as part of your shot set up, and do so in a very specific way to get particular effects.
How To Get Backspin And Topspin
The spin mechanic in PGA Tour 2K25 is part of the shot shaping mechanic. If you hold Shift if you’re on PC, LB on Xbox or L1 on PlayStation, you can bring up the shot shaping menu.
Then, you alter spin with the right thumbstick on console or by clicking and dragging with your mouse if you’re on PC. The bar on the right of the swing indicator shows how much spin you’re putting on the ball.
To add top spin, you want to move the spin indicator to the top of the vertical bar. To add backspin, move the indicator to the bottom.
Adding backspin doesn’t necessarily mean you can completely reverse the direction of a ball’s movement once it lands, but there are stats and skills you can improve or unlock to increase the impact of the spin you place on a shot. The Power stat is what changes the impact of spin more than any other.
You can apply ball consumables to your balls from the Golf Bag menu in MyPlayer to increase the spin rate of your shots.
When To Spin The Ball
When you will want to spin the ball depends on lots of things. The level of the wind, the firmness of the greens, the shot type you’re taking, and more can impact what level of spin you want to employ. When to use spin will be something you’ll want to experiment with, and you’ll get more comfortable with it over time.
However, there are two times you’ll want to use spin more often than not. First of all, you should use topspin when driving a tee shot towards a fairway that runs downhill. While the shot will be more flat and the carry will be reduced, the ball will kick up and roll a lot further, maximizing the distance you can get.
For backspin, you’ll want to use it when approaching holes that are on tricky greens. If a green gets lower to the rear, you’ll want to reduce your shot’s roll so that you don’t end up down it. Backspin can help you stay up on higher parts of greens, giving you more control.
