Fishing in Longvinter isn’t just a relaxing pastime, it’s a survival skill that can help you earn cash, feed yourself, and maybe even reel in something rare. Whether you’re casting your line to make a quick buck or just looking to take a break from stealing… er, borrowing from other players, mastering fishing is a must. But before you can start hauling in an impressive catch, you’ll need the right gear and know-how.
That’s where this guide comes in. We’ll walk you through everything from getting your first fishing rod to selling your haul for profit. Let’s get started.
How To Get A Fishing Rod
To begin fishing, you first need to obtain a fishing rod. Head to the vending machine located at your starting point, where you can purchase a fishing rod immediately. Once you have it, open your backpack by pressing Tab, locate the fishing rod, and click on it to equip it.
How To Fish
Fishing itself is a simple yet engaging process. As you explore the game’s bodies of water, you will notice fish swimming in a circular pattern just beneath the surface. Click on this spot to initiate fishing. When a fish bites, a prompt will appear instructing you to press E. Quickly and repeatedly tap E until the fishing mini-game concludes. If successful, you will receive a message confirming that you caught the fish.
You can check your backpack by pressing Tab to see what you’ve caught.
How To Sell Your Fish
Selling your fish is just as straightforward. From your starting location, follow the trail leading upward to find a station. At the center, you’ll see a green machine. Approach it, left-click to open the menu, and place your fish inside. Click the sell button to finalize the transaction and earn money for your catch.
This machine is called ‘James General Store’, and you’ll find several of them across the island and as you travel.
Once you’re a bit further into the game, you can use the boat to travel to Mrs. Snow’s Outpost. Selling fish here grants more money than at any other Outpost.
