Summary
- God Fruits are considered the strongest powers in One Piece, possibly rivaling the Gorosei’s ‘Demonic’ fruits.
- The Final War in One Piece will likely feature a clash between users of God Fruits and Demon Fruits.
- The mysterious power of the Gorosei could hint at a new type of Devil Fruit or other unique power system.
Devil Fruits are the most important aspect of the entire One Piece power system. Although Haki has largely dominated the upper echelons of power in the world since after the Marineford War, some notable Devil Fruit abilities are still incredibly powerful and it’s implied that these are the most important and strongest powers in the entire world, especially with the reveal of Luffy’s Gear 5 and Loki’s potential Sun God fruit.
These particular Devil Fruits are referred to as ‘God Fruits’ by the fandom and essentially are the strongest in the entire One Piece story. Chapter 1138 of the manga revealed the Elbaf mural which spoke about the existence of various Gods of the world, almost confirming the existence of the God Fruits, while, at the same time, also seemingly confirming a mirrored power system that may be just as strong.

In One Piece’s Egghead arc, fans finally bore witness to the awesome power of the 5 Elders, who had been teased as the most powerful villains and the highest authority in the world for years. These powers were bizarre and, while similar to Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits, were unique in their application as the transformations they created were terrifying demonic monsters known as ‘Yokai’.
There is still much of a divide within the fandom as to what these powers are, with many saying that they aren’t even Devil Fruits and are a unique power entirely which was granted to the Gorosei by Imu. The biggest reason to believe this is that the transformations weren’t accompanied by the usual text box which speaks about what the fruit’s powers are. However, this could hint at an entirely new type of Devil Fruit category that Oda likely only wanted to foreshadow initially but reveal much later on.
We, the 5 Elders, are here before you!
God Fruits are pretty much taken to be gospel at this point by a large majority of the fandom. The biggest reason for this is that the ‘Sun God’ had been mentioned multiple times in the story before the confirmation that it was Luffy the entire time, so fans believe that the same must be true for the other rumored ‘Gods’ that have been mentioned often. Currently, there is nothing revealed about who the users of these Devil Fruits could be, but speculation regarding them is ubiquitous among the community.
So, many feel that this more or less confirms the existence of an alternate power system that seeks to rival God Fruits, which is what the Gorosei use. These are essentially ‘Demonic’ Mythical Zoan fruits, that turn the user into a monster of myth that has destructive and terrifying abilities, as was seen with the powers the Gorosei exhibited in the battle on Egghead.
The theory behind this states that they have bastardized versions of Devil Fruits that have been corrupted by Imu somehow, which would also make sense since Imu could take away this power at any point and from any distance. One Piece is no stronger to increasingly weird and complex power systems, so Imu using their strange and incredibly potent Haki to corrupt or even create strange Devil Fruits is something that could definitely be on the cards.
There is another fan theory that states that the Sunlight Tree Eve is where Devil Fruits are grown in the first place. Since this tree is how Fishman Island gets direct sunlight, it’s most probable that it passes through the Red Line and, consequently, Marijois as well, which could explain the mysterious Chamber of Flowers where Imu stays most of the time. If this is the case, then Imu would have a direct way to influence and corrupt these Devil Fruits.

What This Could Mean For The Future
A Hint For The Final War
The Final War in One Piece is confirmed to be the most destructive battle situation in the entire series, since Oda even stated that it will make the legendary Marineford War look cute by comparison. So, if this is the case, then it’s confirmed that the Gorosei will play a massive role here, serving as major antagonists for the strongest heroes to fight at the end.
When the users of the God Fruits are eventually revealed, and if the Gorosei’s Demon Fruits actually turn out to be a thing, then the Final War would place a lot of focus on the clash between these opposing forces. This would undoubtedly be one of the many highlights of the Final Saga, and perhaps would even show that even more villains have similar powers, making it so that the heroes have to give it their all at the very end of the series.
One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
