Summary

  • One Piece has a wide variety of unique powers beyond Devil Fruits and Haki.
  • Haki has become the predominant form of power in modern One Piece, overshadowing other systems.
  • The Dials and the Hollow-Hollow Fruit could greatly benefit the Straw Hat Crew, but are often forgotten.

When it comes to One Piece, while Devil Fruits and Haki are the main sources of power, there are tons of things in the universe that have abilities that border on magic. From fantastical technology to weird innate abilities, One Piece is full of some of the most bizarre, yet charmingly unique, abilities in recent memory. With powers like Miss Goldenweek’s painting powers or Fishman Karate, not every single ability needs to be related to Devil Fruits or Haki to have its place in the One Piece world.

However, due to how many powers and unique systems there are in the world of One Piece, sometimes, it’s easy to forget about certain abilities. Plus, with Haki and Devil Fruits slowly becoming the most prominent powers in the series, the multitude of other powers and strong items that were useful early on in the series, feel much less important. Despite this, there are still a few abilities and powers that seem to be incredibly useful, yet are frequently forgotten by the Straw Hat Crew in One Piece.

One Piece Has A Ton Of Unique Powers And Items

Some Are Bound To Be Forgotten Over Time

In the modern story of One Piece, almost more than anything else, Haki seems to be the predominant form of power. As of now, every major clash between powerful characters seems to involve Haki in some way, oftentimes overshadowing other important systems in the series, like Devil Fruits. Being the manifestation of willpower, and a way to prove a character’s massive levels of strength, it makes sense as to why Oda chose this power to be so important in One Piece’s end game.

This is the power to overwhelm – the Color of the Supreme King! Most people who’ve made a name for themselves in this world possess this power. – Rayleigh

However, although Haki has many versatile uses between its three forms – Observation, Armament, and Conqueror’s – there are many things in One Piece that Haki can’t do. Mainly, Haki mostly shines during combat, meaning it lacks abilities that would make everyday situations much easier. Although abilities from One Piece’s Devil Fruits often cover these bases, the Straw Hat Crew only possesses a few Devil Fruit users, meaning their abilities can’t account for every situation.

  • The Dials Could Have Been So Useful In One Piece
  • Perona Could Be A Valuable Ally To The Straw Hats

Firstly, one group of objects that would make each arc easier are the Dials from One Piece’s Skypiea Arc. These mysterious devices each have a unique ability, basically mimicking modern-day technology. The Dials are incredibly strong

Although the character is highly anticipated, it seems like Dragon’s strength will never be enough for One Piece.

in both combat and exploration, using their ability to blow strong winds to help guide the Going Merry. Combining the Dials with Franky’s technology in One Piece could be a strong recipe for success, providing a backup system to guide and power the ship when it runs out of fuel – something that happens very frequently. Escaping at the end of an arc will be much easier with a backup system for when Franky’s Cola power can’t cut it.

Next, although she hasn’t spent time with the Straw Hat Crew in a while, Perona’s ability, the underrated Hollow-Hollow Fruit in One Piece, could be incredibly useful, to the point of making many important fights in each arc obsolete. Although the fruit has many abilities, mainly, the power to sap the target’s willpower could be useful in countering the willpower-based system of Haki. By having Perona around, acting as a support-esque character in fights, many arcs could have been much easier overall.

The Thousand Sunny Is Heavily Underutilized

The Sunny Has So Many Unique Powers That Are Forgotten

Thousand Sunny One Piece (1)

Finally, the Thousand Sunny itself seems to be heavily underutilized both by the characters in One Piece and the story overall. With so many tricks and pieces of technology hidden on One Piece’s Thousand Sunny, it feels like if the ship was used more in every arc everything would be much easier, especially with the ship’s unprecedented mobility. However, it seems that the ship, due to its overwhelming usefulness, is often written out of arcs, whether it be from being beached on shore, or out of fuel.

A strong ship as bright as the sun that can cheerfully overcome a thousand seas…

In the end, while these powers would make each arc easier overall, it makes sense why they have taken a backseat in the story of One Piece. Overall, these powers could make many aspects of the One Piece journey, like strong fights and daring escapes, obsolete. Without these powers, One Piece has more tension, and in turn, a better story.
