A job listing for a position at CD Projekt Red has revealed new details on the highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, currently known as Project Orion. According to the role’s daily responsibilities, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel aims to have the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date, which is a bold ambition for the upcoming RPG.

These days, Cyberpunk 2077 is considered one of the best open-world RPGs to date, alongside CD Projekt Red’s other smash hit, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. But it wasn’t all sunshine and roses at launch, as a plethora of performance issues, bugs, and glitches led to the game being pulled from the PlayStation Store back in 2020. But after years of hard work and determination, a magnitude of game updates have turned the tide for Cyberpunk 2077, which now has an overwhelmingly positive review rating on Steam with over 725,000 reviews. Its one and only expansion, Phantom Liberty, was also released to critical acclaim in 2023.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Aiming for Most Realistic Crowd System in Gaming

With significant updates for Cyberpunk 2077 slowly coming to a halt, CD Projekt Red appears to be upping its resources for the highly anticipated sequel. Although the studio is primarily based in Poland, it revealed some time ago that it would be opening a new office in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, to develop Project Orion. With development on the project now underway (albeit likely in the very early stages), CD Projekt Red is searching for new talent to join the team. According to a new job listing for a lead encounter designer (spotted by VGC), the studio is searching for an individual who can work in close collaboration with the systems design team to “create the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date.”

This isn’t the only job listing that has revealed new information on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel either. According to a recently opened position for a senior gameplay animator at CD Projekt Red, Project Orion will keep the first-person perspective seen throughout the original game. The listing states that the ideal candidate will assist in crafting immersive first-person experiences, seemingly confirming that the sequel won’t be going down a different route. Whether or not CD Projekt Red goes down a similar path to Grand Theft Auto 5 and allows players to switch between first and third-person is unknown, but Cyberpunk 2077 being a first-person game was a key part of its experience, so any significant changes for its sequel seems unlikely.

After the success of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has a busy few years ahead as the studio is developing new projects for both IPs and a mysterious new IP currently known as Project Hadar. While all of these games are likely still a few years away, fans were treated to the first trailer for The Witcher 4 back in December, which not only gave the community an introduction to the RPG’s setting but also confirmed that Ciri would be the main protagonist for the highly anticipated sequel.
