All Victory Types In Civ 7, Explained



Civilization 7 sports five distinct victory paths: Cultural, Scientific, Economic, Domination, and Points. This isn’t far removed from prior games – in fact, it’s presently missing a couple of other mainstays, although that may change over the next few years – but the details have shifted. It’s happened in some more than others, but they’ve all seen a revamp.

Civilization 7: Distant Lands Guide

Civilization 7 tosses the term “Distant Lands” at you fairly frequently by the time you reach the Exploration Age. But, uh, what are they?

If you’re just heading into Firaxis’ latest behemoth of a 4X strategy title, it would behoove you to have a firm grasp of how each functions. Treat this guide as a resource for each of our full-coverage articles, as well as a primer for them all!

Civ 7’s Cultural Victory

Since loyalty and pressure are both gone in Civilization 7, you aren’t working to draw in rival settlements, nor are you seeking to make your culture fully dominant over the others. Well, you sort of are, but stuff has changed big-time.

Instead, your ultimate goal is to build the World’s Fair, an endgame Wonder. But you can only do that once you’ve obtained 15 artifacts, and these precious, limited, resources will require you to dispatch Explorers.

You can uncover Exploration Age artifacts immediately upon their deployment, but for Antiquity Age artifacts, you must first send your Explorers to settlements with museums for proper training.

Our Cultural Victory guide, while concluding with details at every step of the way, also covers the Legacy Paths in both prior Ages, which will get you enough bonuses to make your life far easier in this final phase of the game.

Civ 7’s Scientific Victory

The Scientific Victory features a series-mainstay concept: launching a rocket out into the stars. Civilization 7 doesn’t have the whole “Mars mission” or “Alpha Centauri flight” of certain other Firaxis games, but it instead fleshes out the requirements for this monumental achievement.

This occurs with three distinct milestones, all of which are, of course, in the Modern Age:

  • Complete the Trans-Oceanic Flight project. The prerequisites here are the Flight technology, which you must use to construct an Aerodrome.
  • Complete the Break the Sound Barrier project. For this, simply research the Aerodynamics technology.
  • Complete the Launch Satellite project. Learn the Rocketry technology, then construct a Launchpad.

Civ 7’s Economic Victory

Money makes the world turn, for better or worse, and in Civilization 7, an Economic Victory requires a hefty investment. Your end goal is to earn a Great Banker, whom you’ll then send to each civ’s capital.

At increasing costs of both Gold and Influence, you click on their action, until every capital has been affected. At which point, you win; no project required.

But before the Great Banker can spawn, you must earn 500 Railroad Tycoon Points by researching Industrialization, constructing Rail Stations in your cities, researching Mass Production, building Factories, and waiting to rack up points while your Factory resources are automatically distributed on a per-turn basis.

Civ 7’s Domination Victory

You don’t have to crush every rival in order to attain a Domination Victory in Civilization 7… but that’s always an option. You can instead complete the Manhattan Project, followed by the Operation Ivy project,

To do so, you must obtain 20 Ideology Points. This is pretty interesting stuff, actually:

  • If you conquer a settlement prior to obtaining an Ideology, your reward is one point.
  • If you conquer one after learning an Ideology, you get two points.
  • Best yet, if your conquered settlement is of an Ideology that is not your own, you get three points.

From there, either research those aforementioned projects, or crush everyone who’s left beneath your heels. Or, most fiendishly of all, learn how to make nukes via the project, and, well, choose the nuclear option, as they say. Regardless, our Domination Victory Guide goes over it all.

Civ 7’s Points Victory

This last one’s arguably a bit lame, but it’s always an option if nothing else pans out. For a Points Victory, you must have accumulated more Legacy Points than any other civ throughout the course of the game.

We don’t actually have a guide on this, because frankly, there isn’t any need for one!

This is a fun twist on the conventional Civilization points-related formula, though, as rather than being assigned vague points galore from achievements across the game, you can keep sturdy tabs on your progress by making sure you obtain as many Legacy Points as possible for the conclusions of each Age.

The Modern Age automatically ends in Civilization 7, unlike in previous games, which could go on until you’ve reached the end of an assigned turn count, or even carry forward indefinitely if you’ve disabled that function. So, you really need to stay vigilant, as there will be a progress meter for the Modern Age just like the Antiquity and Exploration Ages had.

If you reach the end of the Modern Age, and a rival civ happens to have acquired more points, then it’s game over. On the other hand, if you want to experience every last morsel of the Modern Age, there’s really no better play than this.

If that’s the case, though, make sure none of your enemies are slated to win a different victory.
