Dune is the perfect setting for a large-scale survival experience. It has the harsh atmosphere of Arrakis, never-ending sands to explore, and a sci-fi universe perfect for a videogame. Luckily, that’s where Dune: Awakening comes in, and it finally has a launch date. While we do have a short time to wait before we can play, you can already get involved with a new character creator and benchmark tool, and there’s even a reward for doing so.
Now that Funcom has finally revealed the Dune: Awakening release date, we luckily don’t have that long to wait before we’ll be sandwallking across the surface of Arrakis. Part MMO and survival game, Awakening is based on a sort of ‘what if?’ scenario. Visually, the world is similar to Denis Villeneuve’s recent movies, but the narrative is very different. The Fremen have vanished, Paul Atreides was never born, Lady Jessica gave birth to a girl, and Duke Leto is locked in a brutal war with the Harkonnen. One way or another, the spice will flow.
You’ll need to survive, explore, and build a home on Arrakis if you want to stay alive, as you rise from a lowly prisoner to an agent of the Harkonnen or Atreides. The world is vast, and you need to do whatever you can to get your hands on some spice. You can work with others, fight in PvP, or follow an enigmatic leader: the choice is yours.
That journey can start right now, as Funcom has launched a free character creation and benchmarking tool so that you can build your protagonist ahead of time. You can also make sure your hardware is up to the task, as Dune: Awakening is going to be quite a demanding experience.
