Summary

  • Patch 3 for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC addresses visual bugs and optimizations, improving overall gameplay.
  • The update includes fixes for ray-tracing, reflections, textures, and ultra-wide monitor issues.
  • The patch goes live right as Spider-Man 2 becomes Steam Deck Verified.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC has received Patch 3, which brings a stop to a number of visual and performance issues affecting the newly released port of the 2023 original. It is the third major patch rolled out for Spider-Man 2 after its PC arrival on January 30.

Unlike Spider-Man 2‘s PS5 launch, the PC version of the action-adventure game was bogged down by several technical issues when it hit storefronts last month. Despite featuring the same highly rated game under the hood, the Nixxes Software-developed port received flak from players, whose experience had been marred by various major and minor bugs, early on. However, things have changed for the better since then, as a series of hotfixes and patches have improved Spider-Man 2‘s state on PC. On Steam, the superhero title has already gone from having “Mixed” reviews at the time of launch to having “Mostly Positive” reviews at the time of writing. And Nixxes’ devs seem determined to maintain that momentum with the rollout of another sizable update.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Cut Content Explained

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a variety of content that was either cut or unused before it finally launched, some of which would have changed the game.

On February 20, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 received yet another patch, Patch 3 or version 1.218.0.0, addressing a range of graphical and optimization issues on PC. The visual bugs related to ray-tracing, reflections, and low-quality textures have been resolved in the latest update. For ultra-wide monitor users, the issue-ridden cutscenes have also been taken care of. Additionally, the patch also brings support for the latest Nvidia Streamline SDK, version 2.7.2. The stability of the PlayStation-published title has also been upgraded, fixing a certain crash that affected the “Graffiti in Trouble” mission while Spanish was selected as the text language. Further, the new update improves Spider-Man 2‘s user interface with tweaks made in certain areas, such as suit selection and QTE sequences.

On the same day as the release of Patch 3, the latest Marvel’s Spider-Man entry also became a Steam Deck Verified game, meaning it is now officially supported on Valve’s handheld. Following this announcement, all three games shipped so far under Insomniac’s IP are now part of the growing list of Steam Deck’s supported titles, with the original game and the Miles Morales-based spin-off already verified.

Even though Spider-Man 2‘s introduction came in the midst of technical hiccups, the PC community still didn’t waste any time before starting work on what makes the platform unique: mods. From a mod that changes New York City’s visual appeal to a mod that plays Post Malone’s “Sunflower” in the main menu, there is currently a fair variety of PC mods for Spider-Man 2 players to pick from.
