Solo Leveling: Things The Anime Changes From The Manhwa
As with any adaptation, the Solo Leveling anime made a few changes from the manhwa it’s based on, and most of them have worked out well.
Who is Lee Min-Sung?
Lee Min-Sung is a popular actor who claimed to have recently awakened as a hunter. He is an A-Rank hunter and will be joining the Fiend Guild with a two-year contract. He held a press interview to announce his retirement from acting to become a full-time hunter. But his plans collided with Jin-Woo’s reassessment, and he was forced to cancel the press interview.
How Popular is Min-Sung?
Episode 7 proved that he is fairly popular. But it was also made obvious that his popularity was followed by a bad reputation. Students from Jin-Ha’s class are seen discussing him when they come across his press conference. But they described him negatively. They call him “a playboy” and a “co-star killer”. They also wonder if he’s giving a public apology, suggesting that he has done some unpleasant things during his acting career. His popularity also seemed to be limited, since characters like Baek Yoon-Ho and Woo Jin-Chul failed to recognize him.
What is Min-Sung’s Personality Like?
Min-Sung has a self-centered and arrogant personality. At the press conference, he presented himself as kind and selfless. But his monologue reveals that he is cunning and is putting on a show to cover his scandals. Coming from a rich background, he is also very inconsiderate of other people. He ignored Chairman Gun-Hee‘s instructions to not hold a press conference at that hour. He also ended up getting deeply annoyed with Jin-Woo, who stole the spotlight from him. Despite his fame and power, he seemed like a coward as he was easily intimidated by Woo Jin-Chul.
Is Min-Sung Strong?
While he kept his rank a secret, Min-Sung is an A-Rank hunter. His Rank definitely makes him strong and on the same level as characters like Jin-Chul, and Ki-Hoon. But he lacks any battle experience and his cowardice makes it seem that he will be unable to make use of his powers. But his raw magical power might allow him to defeat lower-ranked hunters and monsters.
How Will Min-Sung Affect the Plot?
Min-Sung seems to contrast heavily with Jin-Woo. While Jin-Woo is strong and protects others, Min-Sung seems cowardly and selfish. It won’t be surprising to see him rise as a minor antagonist. Min-sung’s character also further explores Solo Leveling‘s world-building with themes like corruption and narcissism. Episode 7 teased the upcoming Jeju Island Arc. The sudden appearance of the monstrous ant suggests that it is not far before a battle starts. As an important member of the Fiend Guild, Min-Sung is bound to participate in the battle. But how far will his lack of experience and cowardice take him?
