Rita's Rewind's Next Update Makes Rangers Upgradeable

Summary

  • The studio behind Rita’s Rewind has detailed some major changes coming to the game via an imminent update.
  • The main change will be a system that lets you upgrade Rangers, making them feel more unique.
  • It will also introduce something called Morphers which let you tweak how your next playthrough will feel.

Digital Eclipse continues to demonstrate Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind isn’t just a retro game it wanted to throw out there and forget about, but one it will tweak over time based on your feedback. That has never been more evident than it is today as the studio has confirmed an imminent update that will address player complaints about the game’s playable Rangers not feeling unique enough.

One of the biggest issues many have had with Rita’s Rewind out the gate is that despite the original Power Rangers having unique abilities and strengths in the show, that wasn’t reflected in the game. The incoming update will change that by putting Ranger stats in your hands.

Rita’s Rewind lacks the depth to be considered Mighty, but its love for the series and simple yet satisfying brawling still make it worthwhile.

Digital Eclipse explains in its patch notes that the reason for making all Rangers equal was to try and reflect that all of them can handle themselves, just like in the show. Once the update goes live, players will have the option to unlock and equip stat points as they progress. Those stat points can be used on whatever Ranger you like, meaning you will be able to make some more proficient in specific ways and, hopefully, make their gameplay feel unique from the rest of the team.

It’s not new move sets and unique abilities, but it’s a start, and most definitely an improvement on them all feeling identical.

To make Rita’s Rewind more replayable, which Digital Eclipse noted was the goal from the start, the update also adds something the studio has dubbed Morphers. Morphers are options you will have at the end of a playthrough to alter how the game feels when you play it again. There will be various ways Morphers can be combined, some of which will make your next playthrough more difficult if you found your prior one a little too easy.

The hits keep on coming in what promises to be a significant update to the game once it’s applied at some point within the next week. Joining upgradeable Rangers and Morphers is a Power Blast move you can use when you’re feeling overwhelmed by multiple enemies, Ground Recovery if you time a button press perfectly after being knocked down, and remappable buttons.

Digital Eclipse isn’t able to confirm when exactly the update will be live due to differences between platforms, but implementation begins before the end of this week and it should be live across all versions by next week. It will also be applied to the physical release which is set to launch later this year.
