The recent reviews for Overwatch 2 on Steam are currently sitting at Mixed for the first time since the game was put on the platform in 2023. In light of the success of Season 15 and the return of Overwatch 2 to China, Blizzard’s FPS is crawling its way out from being the lowest-rated game on Steam.

On August 10, 2023, Overwatch 2 began Season 6, which brought a new support hero in the form of Illari, as well as the controversial Invasion story missions. It also heralded the game’s official arrival on Steam, where Overwatch 2 was review bombed so hard that it became the lowest-rated game on the platform.

Overwatch 2 Releases Big Season 15 Update

Overwatch 2 officially releases a massive content update for Season 15, adding some groundbreaking new gameplay changes to the FPS.

However, for the first time in the FPS’s history, Overwatch 2‘s overall rating on Steam is noticeably improving. As of February 19 – one day after the release of Season 15 – Overwatch 2’s recent reviews have become Mixed. Its overall reviews have even shifted from Overwhelmingly Negative to Mostly Negative, jumping up to only be the 70th-lowest ranked game on Steam, with about 23% positive reviews. Compared to where Overwatch 2‘s Steam rating was almost two years ago, this is a significant swing in less than 48 hours.

Overwatch 2 Season 15 is Doing Numbers on Steam and Twitch

There are a few reasons why this sudden shift has taken place. Overwatch 2 just released Season 15, which introduced both Loot Boxes and the game-changing Perks system to the FPS. What’s more, the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event the week before showed off content coming all throughout the year, including the Stadium game mode, Freya and Aqua heroes, and several new maps. Were that not enough, Overwatch 2 has officially returned to China – and considering the majority of negative Steam reviews for the game were from these players, Overwatch 2’s rising rating on Steam may only just be beginning.

Steam isn’t the only place where Overwatch 2 has seen impressive numbers. At press time, Overwatch 2 had around 130,000 viewers on Twitch – over twice the number of major competitor Marvel Rivals, and only eclipsed by games like League of Legends, Minecraft, Counter Strike, and GTA 5. While this number is likely inflated due to Overwatch 2’s ongoing Twitch Drop campaign, the number is still over eight times the 15,000 viewer average from Monday, the day before Season 15 dropped.

After several years of struggles, it seems like Overwatch 2 is finally getting on its feet. Fans will have to keep an eye on the FPS to see if Blizzard can continue this upward trend by delivering more exciting Overwatch 2 content in the future.
