Human Torch will also be making his debut with The Thing when Marvel Rivals releases its major mid-season update on February 21. In addition to new heroes, players will soon be able to battle it out in Central Park, which has been taken over by Dracula and his vampire army.
In a recent earnings call, NetEase Games stated that Marvel Rivals has reached more than 40 million players since its launch on December 6, 2024. In addition, the popular hero shooter has been a huge success on Steam, dominating both the top-sellers and concurrent players charts at launch and during the debut of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. Many fans knew the hero shooter was doing well, as it had reached 10 million players within just 72 hours of its release. However, a large portion of the community was still shocked to hear that the player count had climbed as high as 40 million.

In a recent post on Twitter, NetEase Games revealed a new Trench Coat costume for The Thing in Marvel Rivals. The outfit gives the hero a noir makeover as he takes on the appearance of a grizzled detective. In the footage, he can be seen wearing a wide-brimmed hat and matching tan trench coat. He has a journal tucked away in the back of the coat and even writes in it during his MVP animation. The Thing’s face is partially obscured by a large pair of sunglasses, and he has a camera dangling from his neck.
Marvel Rivals Reveals Trench Coat Costume for The Thing
According to leakers, the cosmetic bundle will cost 1,600 Units in Marvel Rivals, which means the skin itself is considered to be Epic rarity. The costume will be available as soon as the mid-season update goes live. Servers are scheduled to be taken down for maintenance at 1 AM PST on February 21, and it is expected that the game will be unavailable for roughly three hours.
In addition to cosmetics, the 1.5 update for Marvel Rivals will come with numerous changes and additional features. For instance, gamers with extra Chrono Tokens will be able to trade them in for Units, giving them more opportunities to claim free cosmetics. When playing Quick Matches, players who leave at the very end of the game will no longer be substituted. This is a feature that has been highly requested by a large portion of the community, as some people were repeatedly placed in matches that ended almost immediately. With so much content on the way, many fans are excited to dive into the mid-season update for Marvel Rivals on February 21.
