Marvel Rivals has been on a rollercoaster these past few days. The game has been performing superbly, holding onto its playerbase better than any recent live-service game. However, that didn’t stop NetEase from laying off its entire US-based contingent. And now, Marvel Rivals is ready to drop the Central Park map, Human Torch, and The Thing tomorrow.

Overwatch 2 needs a competitor, not an executioner.
While most of the buzz has been about how OP Human Torch appears to be, especially his team up with Storm to create a fire tornado, fans want something entirely different from The Thing. Creating random games using character abilities has been a trend since Marvel Rivals launched, and with The Thing being able to pull off a Fastball Special with Wolverine, players have conceptualized another one.
It’s Fastball Smashing Time, Bub!
One of the things that was revealed in the trailer for The Thing was that he will also be able to perform the Fastball Special team up with Wolverine. That makes him the second big hitter in the game to be able to perform this move, along with Hulk. This has led one player to conceptualise a game of Fastball volleyball.
A not-so-intricately drawn concept for the game was posted to the Marvel Rivals subreddit by leskytwo describes a game where Hulk and The Thing keep tossing Wolverine between themselves like some sort of superhero volleyball game. The comment section loves the idea, and many even want NetEase to add it to the game as a seasonal festival mini-game.
One comment even came up with an entire game. “Things vs Hulks, 5 Wolverine players are the balls, each team wins if each other team is eliminated, wolverines win if both teams are eliminated and can actively kill both teams, but can only deal damage for 5 seconds after being thrown to a new side to prevent griefing.”
This isn’t the first time Marvel Rivals have made up a game using characters’ powers. Two Captain Americas ended up playing Pong with Magneto’s projectile.
