Cosmetics have become part and parcel of free-to-play live-service games, with it being a good way for developers to earn consistent income while continuing to provide core gameplay content for free. Marvel Rivals is no exception to this relatively new industry staple.

When it comes to cosmetics, Marvel Rivals has a distinct advantage over contemporaries like Overwatch 2, as it already has decades’ worth of source material to draw inspiration from for its skins. That being said, Marvel Rivals is only just getting started. There are still plenty of fan-favorite comic book costumes that need to come to the game, a good handful of which revolve around the Star Spangled Man himself, Captain America.

Marvel Rivals recent Valentine’s Day event offered players free skins, but unfortunately, things didn’t exactly go according to plan.

Captain America Suits That Should Come to Marvel Rivals

Classic Comic Costume

Technically the 2099 iteration of the hero, Captain America’s default skin in Marvel Rivals echoes his classic comic costume, but it has a distinctly futuristic design. Though the redesign is intriguing, many fans would love to see Marvel Rivals‘ Cap get his iconic original outfit, complete with chain mail-like armor and winged mask. Developer NetEase could even take things all the way back to 1941 and give fans a classic Captain America suit that comes with his original triangular hearter shield.

More MCU Costumes

Marvel Rivals is currently striking a careful balance between comic-inspired cosmetics and MCU-themed skins. That being said, the MCU-themed skins are some of the best in the game, and that includes Captain America’s recent Infinity War outfit. Though NetEase should prioritize other comic-based suits first, there are still some great MCU Cap skins to draw from, with the Winter Soldier Stealth Suit being a fan-favorite.

U.S. Agent Costume

Originally introduced as the villainous Super-Patriot in the 1980s, John Walker eventually became better known as U.S. Agent. Walker’s U.S. Agent suit is essentially a black, red, and white recolor of Cap’s classic suit, so it’d be a relatively simple costume for Marvel Rivals to add. It seems unlikely Walker will be added to the roster as a fully playable character, so it’d be nice to see a nod to him via a Cap cosmetic.

Bucky Barnes’ Captain America Costume

On a similar note, Bucky Barnes’ brief stint as Captain America came with its own unique recolor of the classic suit. Bucky’s Captain America suit is mostly black, aside from the striking red, white, and blue flag that runs up his entire body, resembling the shape of Cap’s original heater shield. It might be a bit odd to add this skin to Marvel Rivals as Bucky is on the roster, but that could be remedied with a quick line of dialogue between Cap and Bucky that references the costume.

Hydra Supreme Costume

Introduced in 2016, Steven Rogers from Earth-61311 is essentially the evil version of Captain America. Indoctrinated by Hydra at a young age, this alternate version of Steve Rogers managed to infiltrate the Avengers, sow seeds of doubt among their ranks, and ultimately led Hydra to successfully conquer the United States.

This evil version of Captain America has a few suits that would make for great Marvel Rivals costumes, though the best option might be his Hydra Supreme suit from the 2017 Secret Empire crossover run.
