Fellow strategy game and RTS Frostpunk 2 makes the end of the world feel suitably dour. Resources run short. People struggle for warmth. Survival always hangs in the balance. Cataclismo, published by Hooded Horse, the esteemed label behind Manor Lords and Against The Storm, makes the apocalypse a little more spectacular. Charged with defending a series of outposts from the mutant hordes that besiege them night after night, all your building work is granular – everything is made from individual bricks and planks. It gives you lots of room for creativity. It also makes for fantastic concrete fireworks when you get overrun. And now, finally, Cataclismo is about to hit its full 1.0 launch.
Arriving via early access back in summer 2024, Cataclismo has already earned a solid reputation on Steam – 91% of user reviews are positive. The modular building system is Cataclismo’s trademark, but it’s also a traditional RTS game, meaning you need to recruit and train soldiers to fight against the monsters that attack your lovingly designed castles. Developed by Digital Sun, after seven months, Cataclismo is almost 1.0 ready.
The full version of the game will introduce the final parts of the ‘Survival’ mode, including some new rogue-lite mechanics. There’s a new biome called The Depths that will be available in the skirmish, campaign Survival, and level editor modes, and dozens of quality-of-life tweaks. Speaking of the campaign, the last six missions will arrive as part of Cataclismo 1.0, alongside a new enemy and an additional building component that was previously only available to Kickstarter backers.
Rounding that out, central hero Iris Renegate is getting a partial redesign which includes a new set of in-game skills. There are also fixes, balance changes, and small additions which are all based on player feedback from during the early-access period. The Cataclismo 1.0 release date is confirmed for Thursday March 20. If you haven’t played it yet, and want to finally try it now the full launch is inbound, you can get it here.
