Summary

  • Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has official merch available on Amazon, even though the game’s release date is unknown.
  • The game will have a playtest starting February 21, 2025, but the window to apply for it has closed.
  • The initial roster for CrossWorlds seems to consist of Sonic characters, with potential for characters from other games to be added as DLC.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds got a proper reveal during PlayStation’s latest State of Play following a mysterious tease during The Game Awards. However, we still know surprisingly little about the game, including when it will be released. Despite that, Sega has gone ahead and given its new Sonic Racing game its own line of official merch, all of which is available now.

Sega shared the good news via its Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account, revealing CrossWorlds now has its own section on Amazon dedicated to merch for the game. Before you go looking through it trying to find new information about the next Sonic game, the designs are pretty basic. Just a choice between the CrossWorlds logo or the key art featuring Sonic and other characters racing through a ring portal on various items of clothing, a phone case, and a tumbler.

That means, if you have Paramount Plus, you can watch the whole trilogy and Knuckles right now.

In Sega’s defense, the range isn’t quite as bland as it looks at first glance. Most of the clothing items include the option to have the logo or the key art printed on a different color rather than the black option used to demonstrate what everything looks like. Most of it is reasonably priced too. An officially licensed t-shirt for $20 and a matching hoodie for $40 isn’t bad, even if it is for a game no one has played yet.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Already Has Merch

No Release Date Yet, Though

Despite the lack of a release window – let alone a release date – that no one has played CrossWorlds yet changes this weekend. Its State Of Play reveal also confirmed plans for a playtest that begins tomorrow, Friday, February 21, 2025. If this is the first you’ve heard about this, or you knew and forgot until now, bad news, the window to apply to be a part of this weekend’s network test has already closed.

CrossWorlds’ teaser had some hopeful the game’s name comes from characters from other games racing alongside Shadow and co, and while its gameplay seemed to confirm CrossWorlds is connected to the game’s ring portals, there’s still hope. Additional information provided by Sega reveals that there will be characters from other games on the CrossWorlds roster.

However, the trailer appears to show all 23 launch characters will be Sonic characters, implying that if there are additions from series like Yakuza and Persona, they’ll be added to the game as DLC Super Monkey Ball-style.
