Just like with every Sid Meier’s Civilization before it, Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 features numerous iconic historical leaders for players to play as. Unlike past games, however, the leaders this time around are completely separate from the civilizations. Additionally, these leaders are far more than heads of state, as figures such as Harriet Tubman have been added to the mix. And now that those requirements have been removed, there are all sorts of people that could thrive within Sid Meier’s Civilization 7.
Through Civilization 7‘s many post-launch updates and DLC, players should expect a plethora of new leaders to join the roster. As of now, Firaxis has shed light on some of the leaders coming with the Crossroads of the World Collection, which includes Simon Bolivar and Ada Lovelace. Outside of that, much of the DLC content remains a mystery. So, while the studio has likely already decided who will be included, there are so many leaders that really need to join the fray sometime down the line.

While Civilization 7’s Exploration Age may introduce some fun new mechanics to the mix, there still seems to be a lot of work that needs to be done.
Civilization 7 Has Lots of Possible DLC Leaders to Choose From
Leaders From Past Civ Games That Could Shine Here
One of the easiest pools of leaders to pull from would be found by exploring Civilization‘s past. Over the years, there have been countless iconic figures that have come and gone. Players have spent hours conquering the world as the likes of Ghandi, Genghis Khan, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Barbarossa, or Queen Victoria, all of whom are sorely missed.
There is a strong chance that at least Ghandi will appear sometime, as he has become a sort of Civilization legend over the years. However, the others may not be as likely, especially since it would make Civ 7‘s roster too packed with certain civilization leaders. That being said, they could all be great additions to this new formula. Their expertise could lead to powerful nations and players would probably love seeing them again. If Firaxis did not want to pull from the past, however, there are still many other leaders from history that could be the perfect fit for this new experience.
There Are So Many New Leaders That Could Work in Civ 7
Because Sid Meier’s Civilization 7‘s leaders are no longer tied down by being actual historical leaders, Firaxis has a virtually unlimited pool to pull from. The studio could introduce leaders of social movements such as Martin Luther King Jr., put players in the shoes of scientific minds like Sir Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein, play into its Exploration age with Christopher Columbus, or cater to the cultural victory with figures like William Shakespeare.
On top of that, there are so many historical leaders that would also fit right in that have yet to lead a civilization title. Additionally, much like with Civ 6, Firaxis seems to be exploring the concept of alternate personas for some of its leaders. These personas give the leaders new abilities and appearance, making them a bit more flexible than other leaders. So, it seems only natural that the studio will explore this concept even further, which means players can likely expect a plethora of new takes on some of the base game leaders.
There are so many leaders that could fit into Civilization 7, and if past games are anything to go by, there will be a lot of DLC that will hopefully build out that roster immensely. It remains to be seen just who the studio decides to introduce, but with the separation of leaders and civilizations, the potential seems limitless.
