- The game is set to launch on March 20, the same day as Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
A parody of Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows called Yasuke Simulator has recently appeared on Steam. This bizarre Steam title allows gamers to play as the famous African samurai featured in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but adds some comical elements to the gameplay, such as cars and firearms.
Originally announced last year, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is one of the most controversial games in the franchise so far. The main controversy surrounding the game was the addition of Yasuke, a real-life figure who served under Oda Nobunaga and will be one of the two main characters in the upcoming game when it’s released on March 20. During the controversy, the historical accuracy of depicting Yasuke as a samurai was discussed, and many individuals made racist remarks against Ubisoft and its developers for the inclusion of a black samurai in the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Can Mostly Be Played With One Character
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature two playable protagonists, but the game’s creative director says it can be mostly played with just one.
Now, an unknown developer known as HistoryAccurateDevelopers has unveiled Yasuke Simulator on Steam, a third-person action game that puts the players in the shoes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ protagonist Yasuke in 1579. The big twist, as shown in the trailer, is that instead of Yasuke only using traditional Japanese weapons such as katanas, he can also unlock weapons such as rifles and ride modern cars. The game, which has a clear comedic tone, is playful with the historical controversies surrounding Ubisoft’s game, as the developer states that it has done its research to “provide a totally historically accurate depiction” of the period. Graphics-wise, Yasuke Simulator does look a bit generic, with simple graphics which were partly made by AI, according to the developer. If neither game is delayed, Yasuke Simulator will be released on March 20, the same day as Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Yasuke Simulator Will be Released on March 20
Yasuke Simulator is the latest of many games to parody well-known titles. Such experiments are far from unknown, as franchises such as Grand Theft Auto, Pokemon, and others are often subject to similar projects.
While launching the parody at the same time as the original game may help Yasuke Simulator get some attention, the indie game will likely be massively overshadowed by the release of the actual Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which has already been delayed twice so far. Ubisoft has recently confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ pre-orders are doing well despite all the controversies, and are similar to the ones Assassin’s Creed Odyssey had before its release. While no concrete numbers were shared, AC Odyssey is the second most successful game in the franchise, which may indicate that Shadows is set to become a huge hit if it follows a similar trajectory.
