Avowed is an action RPG that, unlike other role-playing games in the genre, doesn’t treat classes in the same way that other RPGs do. While players are able to choose skills from Fighter, Ranger, and Wizard, players can mix and match skills from all three of these skill pages to make the perfect build for them.

Even with this being possible, some players may still enjoy focusing on one class more than others, and therefore, players may wish to focus on one class at the start. The Wizard is a perfect starting class for players in Avowed for many reasons, but these are some of the best reasons why a player should start with the Wizard class.

One Of The Most Interesting Fighting Styles
Players Come Equipped With A Grimoire And A Wand
While many other classes in Avowed tend to use the typical methods of combat such as swords, bows, and axes, those that decide on the Wizard class will become open to the destruction that can be caused when wielding a wand and a grimoire. Players will have access to all sorts of spells depending on the grimoire they have equipped, while being able to attack using regular attacks with the wand. This, thankfully, doesn’t use more Essence.
However, players may also wish to experiment with other possibilities. Guns are in abundance in Avowed, meaning players may wish to have one equipped at all times. Becoming a gun wizard may not be a player’s first choice, but the potential to cause mayhem with it is incredible.

Its Abilities Can Be Used Out Of Combat
Burn Down Webs Or Freeze Water
Although this magic will be most useful in combat when selecting the wizard class skills at the start, players will also find uses for their grimoire’s magic outside of battle too. While exploring the world of Avowed, players will encounter various obstacles that require certain elemental effects to pass them.
A player may use a companion like Kai to burn down webs, or the various plants, which can be thrown like elemental grenades. Wizards don’t have to worry about this. Since their entire roster of magic experiments with the elements, for a slight Essence cost, a player can use their magic to get around the world.

Players No Longer Need To Worry About Crits
Damage Is The Only Thing To Focus On
Critical hits are a sure way to do a high amount of damage to an enemy but require the player to hit a foe in a certain weak spot. This is a lot easier when using a bow, which makes it a beneficial playstyle for anyone planning on being a Ranger. Meanwhile, a Wizard doesn’t need to worry about ever getting a critical hit on their targets, as spells can’t do critical hit damage.

Dawnshore is Avowed’s first area, and there are plenty of great side activities for players to get stuck into as they start their journey.
Instead, a player can focus on simply hitting their target with an onslaught of magical energy without putting a single point in the Perception Attribute. Players should surprisingly put any points into Might to increase the overall damage of their spells, instead of their crit chance.

Elemental Magic To Play With
Mix And Match Spells To Focus On Certain Elements
As mentioned previously, starting with the Wizard class gives the player access to all sorts of magic in their grimoires, which cover a variety of elements. As players level up their Envoy in Avowed, they are likely to encounter new grimoires which come with all sorts of new magic spells.
It may be important for some players to have a wide mix of spells on stand-by to deal with various situations. As a Wizard, a player is free to experiment to find which elemental magic they enjoy using the most and master those methods in their skill tree to give them access to them permanently, since the magic in the Grimoires cannot be changed.

Some Of The Best AOE Options
Players Can Hit Multiple Foes At Once
Continuing on the focus of magic, which makes up the majority of the Wizard playstyle, unlike the other class options in Avowed, this class has a heavy focus on not just attacking one enemy, but instead, multiple enemies at once.
While early in the game, players may not have access to spells that can hit multiple foes at once, players that continue to dedicate themselves to playing a Wizard and collecting various Grimoires will finally have access to some of the most overpowered spells in the game. This can make future encounters with multiple enemies quite simple to deal with.
3
Perfectly Pairs With Godlike Abilities
Two Types Of Magic Become One
The Envoy the player creates in Avowed must be a Godlike. This is a type of person that has been touched by the gods since birth, which gives them not only some peculiar features but also certain abilities. As players progress through the story of Avowed, they will unlock various Godlike abilities which are available to the player, no matter what class they are focusing on.

Wizards are likely to have an easier time handling these Godlike abilities in Avowed due to their common positioning during battles. Many Wizards feel almost like a supporting role during combat, which means using abilities like Dreamtouch is a lot easier as the player is less likely to be interrupted while casting it.
2
Makes The Most Of Essence
Spells Need Magic, Not Just Skills
Essence is a primary attribute in Avowed that players will use no matter the class they are focusing on. However, while some classes only use it for certain abilities, others like Wizard will likely be using it during every fight they encounter.
When casting a spell using a grimoire or from the Wizard’s ability wheel, this will use a small fraction of the player’s Essence bar. Players that wish to make the most of this resource are sure to enjoy not only the Wizard class, but also its skill tree, which provides ways of using less of it while also gaining more.
1
Unlike Any Other Class In Avowed
A Step Away From The Norm
Although previously mentioned how unique the Wizard class is in Avowed through its combat and skills available, it feels important to emphasize how incredible this class is in Avowed. Players that are looking for a class in this RPG that will differ from their usual RPG experience are sure to find enjoyment by focusing on turning their Envoy into a powerful Wizard.
While some players may feel trying something different may make the game harder, Wizard is simplistic enough in its nature that starting with something new in Avowed can be incredibly enjoyable without falling behind the other classes.
