Playstyles that combine might and magic in Avowed offer some of the strongest and most fun experiences you can have in the game. However, with the sheer variety of combinations you can make, getting a build that works can be tricky.
The following is a Spellblade build that combines high damage with excellent crowd control, making it an ideal pick for tackling Avowed’s harder difficulty settings. It may take a while before players get all the necessary parts of the build, but even then, it’s still strong enough to handle whatever the game throws at you.

This is how your skill trees should like once you hit level 15. Spend the rest of the points you get moving forward to either upgrade the existing skills, or get the ones under Optional/Late Game section.
This build combines agility and wizardry to create a nimble spellblade that uses a one-handed weapon and a Grimoire. Unlike Fighter builds that charge into battle recklessly, this one focuses on Ice spells to Freeze targets before shattering them with Explosive damage, giving the build high DPS potential against both single targets and groups.
Minor Missiles and Chill Blades are your bread-and-butter spells here. Use them to deal burst damage and apply Freeze and Bleed. Once targets are frozen, shatter them with Grimoire Snap (or just hit them repeatedly before they thaw). We’ll be using Anextli’s Grimoire
for this build, which gives us free access to Grimoire Snap and Arcane Veil. You can also get Blizzard or Breath of Frost to freeze multiple enemies at once.
You won’t be able to parry enemies while wielding a Grimoire, so you’ll need to invest in Evasive so you can dodge more often. Don’t worry about being squishy though, as Arcane Veil will handle our defensive needs.
Stat Distribution
For this build, focus on getting 10 Might, 5 Perception, and 5 Intellect as soon as you can, then continue upgrading these stats in this order as you level up. We won’t be needing Attack Speed, Stamina, or Health much for this build, so it would be better to focus on boosting damage, crit chance, and total Essence instead.

You can get Last Light of Day, Arcanist’s Gambeson, Anextli’s Grimoire, and Drawn in Winter very early on, but the rest might take a while. Use whatever other pieces of gear you have until then, just make sure to upgrade your weapons along the way.
Anextli’s Grimoire will be your main spellbook for this build since it gives you early access to Grimoire Snap and Arcane Veil. Later on, you can swap this for something like Aurochs-Skin Grimoire, which has Blast of Frost and Freezing Pillar. Make sure to have at least one point in Grimoire Snap if you plan on changing spellbooks.
If you’re unable to freeze enemies in a single hit of Chill Blades, use Drawn in Winter as your main weapon. Otherwise, use Last Light of Day so you can build Fire Accumulation and regenerate HP with every kill.
Best Spellblade Build Companion
Among Avowed’s cast of companions, Marius is the best one to have if you’re playing as a spellcaster of any sort. This is thanks to his Binding Roots ability, which can Root multiple enemies at once. Apart from controlling enemies, this skill will also let targets take more damage from persistent effects like Blizzard, improving your overall freeze rate.
Kai is a great secondary companion if you’re struggling with enemy aggro, but if you can handle the heat, then either Yatzli or Giatta will do just fine.
