Dune: Awakening will launch on May 20, Funcom has announced. The game’s release date was revealed alongside its price, pre-order bonus, and the launch of the Dune: Awakening character creator.
First announced at Gamescom in August 2022, Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO that’s been in development since around 2019, when Funcom signed a licensing deal with Legendary Studios to create at least three games set in the iconic sci-fi universe from the mind of Frank Herbert. The Oslo, Norway-based studio has been providing regular development updates on the project ever since. In one of the most recent examples of such a move, Funcom said in August 2024 that the game was targeting an early 2025 debut.

Dune: Awakening‘s launch window has now been replaced with an official release date, May 20, which was revealed via a new trailer. The two-minute video offers another look at the game’s rendition of Arrakis, which looks vast and deadly. Funcom also confirmed the survival MMO’s price, revealing that Dune: Awakening will retail for $49.99.
Dune: Awakening Reveals Adorable Pre-Order Bonus
In a prepared statement, Funcom said that Dune: Awakening pre-orders are currently planned to start “soon.” While the developer did not provide a more specific time frame, it did reveal the game’s pre-order bonus in the form of the Terrarium of Muad’Dib. This piece of furniture will allow players to decorate their bases with a glass-and-metal enclosure housing the adorable desert mouse that inspired Paul Atreides’s Fremen name in Dune lore.
Dune: Awakening Character Creator Now Available
While Dune: Awakening is still three months out, fans can already jump into its Character Creator and Benchmark Mode, which reached Steam on February 20. Anyone who downloads it will receive a code for an exclusive Frameblade knife skin once they start playing the game itself. It’s currently unclear whether this offer will be available following Dune: Awakening‘s release. Characters created with the newly launched tool will be transferable to the full game.
Dune: Awakening Is Still Waiting for a Console Release Date
Back in August 2024, Funcom confirmed that the console versions of its survival MMO will be behind their PC counterpart. One Dune: Awakening developer subsequently called Xbox Series S development a challenge, suggesting the console’s modest hardware might have something to do with this staggered release strategy. Apart from the current generation of Microsoft’s consoles, Dune: Awakening is also planned to be ported to the PS5. Funcom has yet to commit to a release window—let alone a release date—for the console versions of the game, suggesting PlayStation and Xbox gamers are unlikely to be able to start playing it until the second half of 2025 at the earliest.
