Between Last Epoch, Diablo 4, Lost Ark, and dozens of others, there’s a lot of competition in the ARPG world right now. Slick mechanics and eye-catching design help you stand out, but developers will tell you that the secret to success is having a good bond with your community. The launch of Path of Exile 2 has been occasionally bumpy, but largely, Grinding Gear Games still gets a lot of love from its players. Chris Wilson, who served as lead designer and co-director on the original PoE, has been a mainstay on GGG forums and became the ‘face’ of the studio during the original game’s creation. However, official documents suggest Wilson may have left.

GGG previously confirmed that the next update for PoE 1 was on hold to prioritize work on Path of Exile 2. The RPG developer has also apologized for delays in customer support, after receiving more than 500,000 support tickets during PoE 2’s launch period. Nevertheless, Path of Exile 2 is thriving on Steam – two months since it was released, it still attracts close to 100,000 concurrent users each day.

But a recent filing suggests that Chris Wilson, who regularly appeared in the official Grinding Gear Games forums to share updates and news about the first Path of Exile, may have left the company.

As reported by Game Developer, documents submitted to New Zealand Companies House on Thursday February 19 say that Wilson “ceased” their role as a company director on Tuesday January 21, 2025. A video published by GGG on Thursday January 30, detailing the future of PoE 1, was presented by co-director Jonathan Rogers.
