  • Despite initial doubts, Glenn and Maggie became a beloved power couple, emphasizing their importance in the series.

When it comes to AMC’s The Walking Dead‘s main characters, sometimes surviving its harsh environments isn’t the only thing on their minds. Like in any situation that heaps a group of people together, it’s only a matter of time before some of them start some kind of romantic relationship, especially in a world where the cold breath of death is nipping at their heels.

Despite being a zombie series filled with the trauma and the pain of trying to live in the post-apocalypse, The Walking Dead‘s relationships between its complex characters have always been a storyline worth telling, contributing to why it became one of the most-watched shows on TV. Many loyal fans have continued watching re-runs of The Walking Dead and its spin-offs due to their love of the characters, and even though there have been plenty of epic battles, sad deaths, and zombie killings, the show’s characters and their relationships with each other are exactly what makes it so compelling to watch. Between Shane and Lori (Andrea too), Arron and Eric, Sasha and Bob, and Rick and Michonne, viewers have seen love spring up in the most unusual of places, but fans think one couple wouldn’t have even liked each other if it wasn’t for the outbreak.

Walking Dead Fans Think Maggie and Glenn Would Have Clashed Pre-Apocalypse

As many meet-cuties go in movies and TV shows, Maggie rode into season 2 on a horse as the ballsy farm girl and straight into the heart of pizza delivery guy, Glenn. However, their relationship wasn’t all love hearts at the beginning as Maggie gave Glenn the cold shoulder for quite some time before eventually sleeping with him in a pharmacy store as she was basically “out of options” due to the post-apocalypse. Even though the couple went on to become one of the best and most loving in the entire series, some Walking Dead fans think that it would have been a very different story if the outbreak hadn’t happened at all.

On Reddit, the question about whether the beloved couple would have even been interested in each other pre-apocalypse was posted by Walking Dead fan phantom_avenger. In the post, the user said that they thought Maggie was way out of Glenn’s league due to Glenn’s inexperience with the opposite sex, as well as being very awkward, enjoying time alone, and liking video games rather than being overly social. Maggie, on the other hand, was confident, forthright, and religious, meaning that her beliefs could have seen her be a lot more reserved around men before the outbreak. “He had no shot because she would never have given him the time of day under normal circumstances,” said one comment, while another stated, “She lived on a farm with an evangelical background. She wasn’t exactly the leading candidate to date outside her comfort zone. No shot.”

However, regardless of what could have happened, Glenn and Maggie went on to become the show’s power couple. Their devotion to one another was not only admirable but also needed in a world so horrific, especially since Maggie went on to lose everyone she knew from before the outbreak. Even after Glenn’s death in season 7, their relationship remained a major part of the show. Even though there were many relationships on TWD after them, Glenn and Maggie will forever be an unforgettable aspect of the series.

Maggie fans can catch her, and Negan too, when Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City returns this year in the spring. However, no official release date has been set as yet.
