This Character Might Not Be Dead And Could Return In Dexter: Resurrection

Summary

  • Molly Park’s fate in New Blood may not be definitive, with hints suggesting she could be alive in Dexter: Resurrection.
  • Jamie Chung’s continued involvement in the Dexter-verse could indicate Molly Park’s return or a significant role in Resurrection.
  • Even if presumed dead, Molly Park might still be crucial to Dexter: Resurrection, possibly through unearthing podcast archives.

Dexter: Resurrection is currently in the filming stages of production with Michael C. Hall back as Dexter Morgan. The sequel series will pick up directly after the events of the limited series, New Blood, as Dexter fights for his life after a gunshot wound to the chest. Dexter might not be the only character presumed dead, only to turn up very much alive in Resurrection, with true crime host and fan favorite, Molly Park’s fate possibly not as definitive as it originally seemed, with the actress who played her, Jamie Chung, dropping numerous hints that suggest she could be alive.

Jamie Chung is the host of the prequel series’ companion show, Dexter: Final Cut, and she’s also appeared on Dexter’s Kill Room, to watch old episodes of the show with a fellow Dexter star. The creative team behind the Dexter-verse clearly have high regard for Chung, and her character, Molly Park, probably wouldn’t have been killed off in New Blood if the original plan was to continue the series.

Jamie Chung Has Hinted At Molly Park’s Fate Not Being As Definitive As Originally Portrayed In New Blood

Molly Park became an instant fan favorite in the Dexter-verse when she rocked up in Iron Lake to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Matt Caldwell. Park was the host of a popular true-crime podcast called Merry F**king Kill, and she supposedly died at the hands of Kurt Caldwell. However, her death was never seen on screen, and Jamie Chung has repeatedly hinted at her possible survival on the companion show, Dexter: Final Cut. Of course, it could just be a joke, but it feels like it could have serious undertones based on Chung’s continued involvement with the Dexter-verse. She’s a talented actress and many fans would love to see her come back in Resurrection, with so much more to explore with her character.

If Dexter is alive after surviving a gunshot wound to the chest in New Blood, Molly Park could also still be alive. Molly Park’s supposed death happened off-screen, and Dexter discovers her embalmed body in Kurt’s bunker, displayed alongside his other victims in his shrine. However, there is every chance Kurt hadn’t got around to killing her yet, and her death was an elaborate illusion. It might be clutching at straws, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Clyde Phillips and his team of writers have been trying to come up with ways to bring Molly Park back alive in Resurrection. On the last episode of Dexter: Final Cut, Jamie Chung joked with Vince Masuka, actor, C. S Lee, that she was planning to start a petition to bring back Molly Park. In addition to this, C. S Lee said he hopes Molly Park isn’t dead.

Molly Park is/was a formidable investigative journalist, and it’s fair to say she would have eventually connected the dots that led to the discovery of Dexter as the Bay Harbor Butcher. In fact, she was getting pretty close to figuring it out in New Blood, but her ‘death’ put a stop to that. Jamie Chung has signed on to host Dexter: Final Cut when the sequel series, Resurrection, airs this summer. The companion show will feature more interviews with cast and crew associated with the Dexter-verse, and more of Jamie Chung’s humor and quirky disposition.

Molly Park could still play a key part in Dexter: Resurrection, even if it is revealed that she is dead. The Dexter-verse is known for featuring dead characters, like Debra and Harry Morgan as Dexter’s ghostly apparition. If Molly Park was to return beyond the grave, it would more likely be linked to her true-crime podcast, Merry F**king Kill. There is so much potential to make use of her podcast archives and feature the character this way. Molly Park’s podcast featured episodes on The Bay Harbor Butcher and The Trinity Killer, among others, and there’s every chance she also did episodes focused on other cases linked to Resurrection‘s story.
