Magic: The Gathering‘s next phase of Universes Beyond is officially underway with the reveal of its Final Fantasy crossover commander decks this week. The new set will be here in June, but pre-orders for it have already begun with the decks now available on Amazon alongside starter kits, a booster bundle, and more.
Four games from the Final Fantasy series have been selected for MTG duty – Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 10, and Final Fantasy 14. Each game has its own commander deck, and three of them are available to pre-order now on Amazon for $69.99 each, a price that hasn’t gone down well with those in the Magic community eager to pick up some of the Final Fantasy crossover items.

The only commander deck missing from Amazon’s pre-order options at the time of typing this is the one themed after Final Fantasy 7 with Cloud leading the charge. It seems the Final Fantasy 7 cards are, unsurprisingly, going to be the most popular in this Universes Beyond set. Pre-orders for Cloud’s commander deck went live on Tuesday evening and they were all gone by the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At Least One Item Has Already Sold Out, Though
Just because the FF7 commander deck isn’t available right now doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to get your hands on cards featuring characters from Final Fantasy 7. The Starter Kit has Cloud and Sephiroth up front and, considering this will likely be a first foray into MTG for a lot of Final Fantasy fans whose interest has been piqued by the crossover, is a perfect place to start. It’s also the cheapest item in the set at $19.99, so a perfect place to start.
Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy Commander Deck
Final Fantasy is coming to Magic: The Gathering as a part of the TCG’s ongoing Universes Beyond saga that brings in worlds and characters from other IPs. Each Commander Deck is based on a different Final Fantasy game with VI, VII, X, and XIV to choose from.
Other items still available include the Final Fantasy Bundle and the slightly more expensive Gift Edition of the bundle. The finer details of what exactly will be in those bundles hasn’t been revealed, however, regular MTG bundles tend to include booster packs and accessories, among other things. Gift Bundles are usually very similar with extras thrown in for the additional money they cost, in this instance another $10.
Last but not least, for those who are all in on this crossover and willing to spend the money to prove it, there’s the Booster Box. If you just love Final Fantasy and you want cards from all four of the games from which this crossover will pull, the Booster Box includes 30 packs, each pack containing 14 cards. While there will, of course, be quite a few duplicates in there, that will net you a lot of the cards included in this upcoming set.
