Stephen King is one of the most famous authors of all time with a slew of iconic books under his name, and most of them belong to the horror genre. King’s popularity has become even greater over time, as seen in many directors wanting to adapt his novels to the big and small screen. This year King fans are in for a treat as a series of confirmed adaptations are in development, including Max’s IT: Welcome to Derry starring Bill Skarsgård, Mike Flanagan’s The Dark Tower series and film combination, and Prime Video’s Carrie series. Some are even releasing this year, like The Monkey and It: Welcome to Derry.

While the horror author is at the front of everyone’s mind when it comes to exciting upcoming adaptations this year, the subject has turned to what a Stephen King theme park would look like. Taking this idea and running with it, horror fans have come up with some incredible concepts that would fit into a terrifying amusement park to give most people nightmares for weeks. With suggestions that range from heart-stopping interactive boat rides to full recreations of settings found in King’s universe, the only thing that’s missing is for someone to actually build it now.

Stephen King Fans Have Some Great Ideas for a Horror Theme Park

Mike Flanagan's Dark Tower How Welcome to Derry Ties Into The Dark Tower Franchise

Over on Reddit, fans have been throwing around ideas about what they think would make a great addition to a Stephen King theme park. It’s a surprise that Stephen King’s stories or even some of his most horrific characters haven’t made it to an amusement park in all of these years, but that’s likely due to the author being extra careful of where many of his creations end up, and he has also previously stated that he doesn’t have much love for haunted houses. Even though there’s a slim chance of it happening, that hasn’t stopped fans from shooting some ideas around about what it could look like.

User, MusicalElf22, expressed that they’d love to see IT‘s daunting sewer battle turned into a boat ride, where visitors could float around the waters of the tunnels in Derry, Maine, as well as coming across a horrific version of the clown, Pennywise. Another fan suggested that the ideal ride would be giving the classic bumper cars a Christine twist, where one rider would chase after the other. A “Blaine the Mono” train ride from The Dark Tower series was another popular choice, as was The Marsten haunted house from Salem’s Lot, with vampires included.

It’s safe to say that Stephen King fans are brimming with ideas when it comes to a theme park and who knows, maybe one day King will decide that it’s actually a good idea after all. A few years ago, rumors were flying around that King’s universe might come to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, but as yet, nothing has ever materialized. At least fans have plenty of King content to keep them going this year and, hopefully, for the foreseeable future.
