What Scream 4 Plot Hole Shouldn’t Be Repeated In Scream 7?
One Redditor posted in a thread about the Scream 4 scene when Ghostface puts their mask, blood, and a knife in Sidney Prescott’s rental car. Sidney is doing a book signing for her new memoir when she and the crowd rush outside to see what has happened. The fan wrote:
“I still am confused by the scene with sidney’s rental car. How did charlie or jill even have access to place all of those things in the trunk? sid hadn’t even met up with jill at that point of the movie.”

“they did it without anyone noticing,it was a broad daylight with bunch of people aside of that library,also even if somehow they did it without being noticed,in 2011 there were already security cameras.”
Just like the plot holes in Scream 6, this one is perplexing. As this fan pointed out, how could Ghostface avoid being seen when the bookstore signing happened during the day and how did no one stop them? There is no way to get around this. Even if Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) or Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts) did this without wearing the Ghostface costume, someone would still see them. A Woodsboro resident could still alert the police and they could be tracked down. This car scene doesn’t feel necessary. Sidney could have felt Ghostface’s presence at the book signing in other ways. Perhaps she could imagine them standing in the crowd, or she could worry that they followed her to a local coffee shop to grab a drink afterward.
Scream 7 shouldn’t have a plot hole as obvious and awkward as this one. This can be achieved in one way: Ghostface needs to be haunting and terrifying instead of goofy and silly. Thankfully, Mason Gooding said that Ghostface is violent and “gory” in Scream 7, so it sounds like this time around, the villain is much darker. Ghostface is hilarious as they always speak in a creepy voice and quiz characters on horror movie knowledge. However, Ghostface needs to step up their game and be even more frightening. They also need to seem like a smart villain who is always one step ahead of Sidney and the other characters.
If Scream 7 makes it clear that Ghostface is operating at night instead of in daylight, like in this confusing Scream 4 scene, then that should also solve this issue. Whether Sidney’s husband Mark Evans (Joel McHale) is Ghostface or it’s a brand new person, they should still sneak around. That would also make them much scarier than past Ghostfaces have been, which would be a fun change.
How Can Scream 7 Get Around Potential Plot Holes?
The best thing that Scream 7 can do is make sure there are proper and logical explanations for every beat of Sidney Prescott’s story. This starts with Ghostface’s motive. Since she is living a new life with her family, there needs to be a good reason why Ghostface is targeting her again. Otherwise, fans will poke holes in the big villain reveal, and it won’t be satisfying. That’s why this one particular fan theory about Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) and Roman Bridger (Scott Foley) is so compelling. It could explain why they’re both returning to the franchise and it would also keep Sidney in the spotlight.
Scream 7 should also keep things simple. If the plot gets too convoluted, that will invite confusion and frustration among audiences. Instead, the horror sequel can ensure that every new character is connected to Sidney in some way and that she interacts with most of them. At least one new character should be Sidney’s friend and it seems likely that the other cast members will be involved in her children’s lives. After all, Scream fans want to see Sidney, so focusing on her will make everyone happy.
