Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is getting two major updates filled with exciting features to take the colorful martial arts action to the next level, with the first dropping sometime this week. While Power Rangers fans didn’t get a new series in 2024, they were treated to a nostalgic throwback to the side-scrolling beat-em-ups of old with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind. This 2D brawler puts players behind the helmets of the original teenagers with attitude as they battle against the evil Robo-Rita in a plot that ties into 2023’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always Netflix special.

Developer Digital Eclipse has continued to support Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind following its December 10 launch with update patches that addressed issues players had with the game on release. The first Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind update came about a week after the game’s launch and made welcome adjustments to player movement, 3D-style Zord and Megazord sequences, and Time Disruptor obstacles.

There’s a secret Power Ranger to be unlocked in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind; here’s how you can obtain this very special guest.

Two new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind updates have been announced, and they might be the biggest yet. As revealed by Digital Eclipse (via Nintendo Life), several new features are being introduced in the first patch, such as an upgrade system in which players can spend skill points to make Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind’s playable characters stronger, special “Morpher” modifiers that can be used to alter gameplay in different ways, a new “Power Blast” attack that can knock enemies back at the cost of some health, and a “Ground Recovery” move that can help fallen players get back on their feet faster.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind February 2025 Update Highlights

  • Upgradeable Rangers: Digital Eclipse is implementing a new skill point system that lets you adjust your preferred Ranger’s strength, defense, and speed. This gives each character variety while also allowing every fan to make their favorite Rangers play exactly how they want them to play.
  • Morphers: These special modifiers change up things like gravity, speed, and more. Plus, if you want to play Rita’s Rewind as it was at launch (with all Rangers being equally capable), that option is available, too. Mix and match for some seriously silly fun in your battles.
  • Power Blast: Finding yourself swamped with Robo Rita’s many minions? Use Power Blast to knock them back in exchange for a chunk of your health bar. No reward without risk, but it’ll certainly help turn the tide of chaotic battles.
  • Ground Recovery: With a properly timed button press, a hero who has been knocked back by an enemy attack can recover quickly and start attacking again, as opposed to landing on the ground and then needing to get up. This should keep the pace of those brawls at maximum speed!

Digital Eclipse stated that the first update is coming to PC and consoles sometime this week, with a Nintendo Switch release following “shortly afterwards.” The second update is planned for the coming spring and will add new multiplayer options, allowing a team of six playable Rangers to join forces across six separate consoles. All of these new features will be included in Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind’s upcoming physical edition, which will hit stores on May 30.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind was met with a mixed reception at launch, although the subsequent wave of Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind updates have addressed some of the issues gamers reportedly had with the superhero sidescroller. As of this writing, the development team behind Rita’s Rewind has no plans for DLC, instead focusing on fine-tuning the current game with updates like the one set to release on consoles sometime later this month.
