Although it’s been a long time since Eevee got a new evolution, the line of Pokemon remains extremely popular with fans. Eevee is considered to be pretty cute, and since Pokemon fans can evolve it in so many different ways, it’s likely that most Pokemon trainers have a favorite Eeveelution. While their base evolutions are great on their own, some fans have taken the initiative to make them even more interesting.

Pokemon Fan Shares Cool Pikachu Car They Found
A Pokemon fan shares a rare car they spotted sitting on the street, and it’s an electric sight for Pikachu fans and automobile enthusiasts.
Over on Reddit, artist shunixe has shared their design for a Mecha Umbreon, which shows the Pokemon split in half, courtesy of portals that it’s using. The back half of Umbreon, which has Shiny Umbreon‘s blue stripes, is disappearing into a blue portal, while a yellow portal in front of it shows the front half of the Umbreon poking through, which has yellow stripes akin to its standard form. The mecha design itself is impressive, with Umbreon looking like it’s made out of robotic parts, but the clever nod to Umbreon’s colors looking similar to the colors used for portals in Portal is particularly neat.
Portal and Pokemon Fans Collide
Numerous fans have commented on the work, quoting classic lines from Portal, like telling the artist that they’re thinking with portals or saying “this was a triumph” while complimenting the artwork. One fan pointed out that Umbreon has poisonous sweat, which could even tie into the deadly neurotoxin that Portal players are threatened with when GLaDOS tries to kill the player in the first game. While Pokemon and Valve games have never had a crossover of any kind, it’s interesting to think about what could be created if it were to happen.
For fans of the mecha styling of this particular Pokemon, this is just the latest mecha take on an Eeveelution that this artist has shared. This artist has already created mecha forms for Eevee, Vaporeon, and Leafeon. It’s likely that they’ll continue working on new Eeveelutions in this style, though they’ve also created other types of Pokemon fanart that don’t have that mecha twist. In any case, it seems that the fandom is receptive to their work, so it will be interesting to see what they design next, and which Eeveelution will get a mecha version next.
