A fresh Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti leak has suggested that the number of the cards available to actually buy on launch day will be “on the same level as 5080/5090.” In other words, they’re likely to sell out in a flash and leave gamers waiting potentially weeks or months for fresh stock to arrive.
The development goes against a general hope and belief among many people that the smaller GPU dies used in these lower-end cards would allow for a greater volume of card production than for cards based on larger dies. That is, if Nvidia can produce, say, twice as many smaller RTX 5070 Ti dies per silicon wafer than larger RTX 5090 dies, it stands to reason that we could expect twice the number of cards at launch. When it comes to RTX 5070 Ti stock, though, it’s looking like this won’t be the case.
This new leak comes from X (formerly Twitter) user @MichaelHofric13, who goes by the handle Winterherz. In a reply to a Moore’s Law is Dead (a regular tech leaker) post, Winterhertz said that they had been chatting with German electronics store, Alternate, and that the store had revealed their thoughts on the RTX 5070 Ti stock situation. Specifically, the store states that “availability of the RTX 5070 Ti [is] on the same level as 5080/5090.”
Adding credence to this claim is another leak from Chinese site, Channel Gate, that claims retailers stocking the RTX 5070 Ti will “only get a few pieces at most, maybe 10-20 pieces at most, and the quantity is very small.” They go on to point out that this stock level won’t be “enough for installation and Internet cafe market demand.”
This post also mentions the expected price of the RTX 5070 Ti in China, which it believes will sit at around 7,000 – 8,000 yuan (between $970 and $1,080). This is considerably higher than Nvidia’s claimed $749 MSRP, but we’ve already seen that this is indeed the price some retailers are using for these cards, with the likes of BestBuy listing cards at between $899 and $999.
Crucially, because Nvidia isn’t producing its own Founders Edition version of the RTX 5070 Ti, it’s looking likely that buyers won’t have the opportunity to pick up a card at Nvidia’s own MSRP at all. That’s unlike the situation with RTX 5090 stock and RTX 5080 stock where although prices for partner cards at many retailers are much higher than MSRP, you can buy the Founders Edition versions of these cards direct from Nvidia at MSRP.
While this stock and pricing situation isn’t looking overly promising, the RTX 5070 Ti could still be an excellent choice of upper mid-range GPU when pricing and availability settles down. Whether it manages to out muscle the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and earn a spot on our best graphics card guide, we’ll just have to wait and see.
