  • Pro skater Tyshawn Jones hints at upcoming Tony Hawk Pro Skater remaster during radio show interview.
  • Uncertainty remains over whether upcoming game is a remaster or entirely new release for the franchise.
  • Potential competition looms with new free-to-play Skate game, setting up 2025 to be a big year for skateboarding fans.

Fans of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise have been clamoring for more from the franchise for years, and if the words of pro skater Tyshawn Jones are to be believed, their wait may soon be over. During a recent interview on a radio show, Jones mentioned that he is set to appear in another remaster of a Tony Hawk Pro Skater title “about to come out.”

The Tony Hawk Pro Skater series has waxed and waned in popularity over the past decade. The last sequential entry in the series, 2015’s Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, was heavily derided upon its release, with players citing glitches, bad physics, and outdated mechanics, with the later reveal that production was rushed to release a game before developer Activision’s IP license expired. After lying dormant for a half-decade, the series made a triumphant return in 2020 with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 with numerous quality-of-life improvements. Another five years later, the franchise looks like it’s coming back for more.

Tyshawn Jones recently appeared on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM, where the skater divulged that he’ll be a playable character in an upcoming Tony Hawk Pro Skater remaster after being featured in the last one. The series did turn 25 last year, with Tony Hawk himself celebrating the anniversary with a tease of a new upcoming Tony Hawk Pro Skater game. Despite the lack of clarity regarding exactly what fans are getting with the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise, a remaster of a previous title, or titles, seems to be in the works. Which one is getting remastered, however, remains a complete mystery. A large portion of the fanbase appears to be holding out hope for the PS2-favorite Tony Hawk’s Underground and its sequel, which featured a more story-driven single player mode along with the groundbreaking feature of being able to get off the skateboard.

A McTwist in the Skateboarding Video Game Scene

Whatever kind of Tony Hawk Pro Skater game comes out this year, it will have some direct competition in a new entry of the Skate series, which is simply titled skate. The title has been revealed to be free-to-play, and will adopt a live-service model. With the new Skate title confirmed for release, and at least one Tony Hawk Pro Skater title all but confirmed for this year, 2025 could be a huge year for skateboarding fans.
