Ahead of Marvel Rivals Season 1 Part 2’s introduction of the Human Torch and The Thing, NetEase has revealed the first look at gameplay for these new heroes. Marvel Rivals players have already been treated to two playable members of The Fantastic Four this season, with Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman having launched at the start of Season 1. These heroes already changed the Marvel Rivals meta in the first half of the season, and it seems like Human Torch could be a serious game-changer in the second half thanks to his Team-Up with Storm.
The current Marvel Rivals meta is already in for a shake-up, as the mid-season patch seems to be addressing many players’ complaints about the power that the ults of Marvel Rivals‘ Strategist hold in team fights. The ults of heroes like Luna Snow, Cloak and Dagger, and Mantis can be very frustrating for players and have led many to call for them to be nerfed. However, the best way to deal with these ults may have just gotten stronger with the introduction of Human Torch.

Given the popularity of its more obscure characters, Marvel Rivals should go all in on one of the wackiest characters from Marvel Comics.
Human Torch’s Team-Up Could Make Storm’s Ult Even More Deadly
Human Torch and Storm Can Combine Their Ults Via Marvel Rivals’ Team-Up Mechanic
Storm has seen a complete 180-degree turnaround since the game launched into Season 0, going from one of the worst heroes in the game to one of the best. What makes Storm so strong in the current Season 1 meta is her ult, Omgea Hurricane, which draws in enemies and deals damage to them over time in a wide radius. This allows players to pull enemies out of range of their allied Cloak and Dagger or Luna Snow ults and prevent them from being healed by their effects.
Human Torch shares a new Team-Up with Storm that allows both of their ults to combine into an even more powerful force. When using his Supernova ult, Human Torch will also create a fire tornado that can be consumed by Storm’s Omega Hurricane to create a vortex of Omega Fire. The combination of these ultimates creates a massive flaming hurricane with a much larger radius than Storm’s basic Omega Hurricane with the potential to deal even more damage, meaning coordination between these two heroes can make for one devastating play if their ults are timed correctly.
Storm’s Hurricane Already is Great for Countering Marvel Rival’s Strategist-Focused Meta
Even with nerfs coming to the ults of several Marvel Rivals‘ Strategists, introducing an even more powerful way to counter them with a new Team-Up between Storm and Human Torch should allow the current Strategist-oriented meta to die down. The ults of heroes like Luna Snow and Cloak and Dagger that provide area of effect healing for a long period of time are being reduced in both length and frequency, according to the patch notes for Marvel Rivals Season 1 Part 2. This alone should reduce the need for a hero like Storm to counter these ults, but her Team-Up with Human Torch could mean she sticks around as a meta Duelist a bit longer.
Although using two flight-based Duelists on a team may be easy pickings for enemy hitscan characters, the potential Human Torch and Storm have to completely shut down an opposing team’s Strategists may make them well worth the risk. It’s still unclear how much the nerfs to these Strategists’ ults will impact the Marvel Rivals meta going into the second half of Season 1. However, the Team-Up between Human Torch and Storm should provide the extra insurance needed for Marvel Rivals to reverse course on its current controversial Strategist meta.
