The Sims works great as a playground for taking your OCs, or even pre-established characters, and building little worlds for them where all sorts of shenanigans can take place. Except sometimes, you just want to build a cool house without the fear of it being wrecked by an unruly NPC that can’t tell up from down. Enter Architect Life: A House Design Simulator, a new upcoming sim game that’s all about building your dream home, without any pesky people around to get in the way. Best of all, you can try out the game for yourself right now, as a demo is available to check out on Steam as of today.
As it stands, there are only two building plots to choose from in the game’s free mode, but when it launches later this year you’ll have access to 60. Unlike The Sims where you build directly on the plot you’ve chosen, Architect Life quite cutely frames the main building part of the game as if you’re building a model of the house on your workstation, complete with cardboard cutouts of things like trees off to the side, and a cutting mat to work off of. It’s a simulation game, but accessible at a smaller, more intimate level.
Judging from the trailer, it looks like you’ll be able to get pretty precise with every aspect of the house, from curved walls, to the angle of your roof, right down to how much each individual stretch of wall will cost you. Every piece of furniture appears to be fully customisable, too, with a color wheel allowing you to get the exact shade of whatever your favourite tone is. There are plenty of items to decorate your house with as well.
On top of all that, once you’re finished with your house, you can take a walk through it in a first-person mode just to make sure you’re definitely happy with every detail – possibly an unhealthy feature for those of you that never feel happy with how they placed that one picture frame.
