Warriors: Abyss is a digital soup of ideas. It is a dish that makes its ingredients play nice with each other instead of throwing everything into a pot and just expecting it to work. Essentially, it’s a Vampire Survivors-esque game with roguelike mechanics in the style of Dynasty Warriors.
One of the ways that players increase their in-game power level is through the use of formations and recruiting characters for that formation. Understanding how a formation works, what it’s purpose is, and how to utilize it effectively to gain the most is key to winning the game.

What Are Formations in Warriors: Abyss
Formations are the main method of progression that players have during a run. The formation that a player has can be swapped with different formations. It has a passive ability and a powerful active ability, which the player can use once it charges. After clearing a floor, players can summon characters from a large pool of their unlocked characters, each with their own attributes, emblems, and summon attacks.
Once summoned, players can organize their summoned characters into a formation of their choosing, which will decide when these characters will use their summon attacks. This is determined by the position of the character within the formation. The fifth character will use their summon attack when the player uses the 5-Attack Combo, while the 1st one will unleash their attack when the player uses the single attack combo, and so on.

There is a manual and an automatic way that players can arrange their characters in a formation. Every time the player completes a stage, a War Banner of the King will spawn, which can be used to rearrange and change formations once the player interacts with it.
If you want to do it manually, click on the “Switch Summonable Heroes” button to mess with the characters in the formation, and click on “Select Formation” to change the formation itself. You can see which organization or formation is better by looking at the way the total attack power changes with each change you make. If you want the CPU to optimize your build for maximum attack power by default, you can do so by clicking the “Enma’s Recommended Formation” button.

How to Get New Formations in Warriors: Abyss
There are two parts to unlocking formations in the Warriors: Abyss. At the start, the player only has a handful of basic formations that they can buy during a run. However, you can unlock powerful and unique formations from the Hall of Bonded Souls using Karma Embers.
Once unlocked, a formation can appear in the King’s Cauldron, the shop floor of the game. It is recommended that the player obtain a new formation as soon as possible since the starting formation isn’t worth keeping. Make sure you read the passive and active abilities to see if they fit your specific build before buying a new formation. After you’ve bought a formation, you can change it from the War Banner of the King, which will have spawned alongside the cauldron.
