Ah, math. A soothing practice for some; the bane of others’ existence. Either way, the so-called ‘Papyrus Problems’ in Civilization 7 aren’t the easiest equations around. If you blanch at all this, you’ll still have a one-in-two chance of getting it right. And, funnily enough, you can still earn a separate reward if that happens.
But what if you don’t wish to earn the teacher’s ire in these goofy little narrative events? Alternatively, perhaps you would vastly prefer the reward you’ll receive for being correct? We hear you. We felt similarly. In which case, do read on as we cover the Papyrus Problems in Civ 7.
How To Solve Civ 7’s ‘Papyrus Problems’ Narrative Choice
If we’re being historical here, the original version of this tomfoolery is referred to as the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus, and it dates back to Ancient Egypt. Which means that, if you’re playing as Hatshepsut and/or Egypt, it all rather tracks.
We won’t regale you with more history – do look it up if you’re interested! – but here’s the question and correct answer for Civ 7’s Papyrus Problem.
The Question
There are seven houses, each house has seven cats. Each cat kills seven mice, and each mouse has eaten seven grains of barley. Each grain would have produced seven gallons of cereal. What is the sum of the enumerated things?
The Answer
The sum, as it happens, is not the first choice, 16807. Rather, it’s the second choice: 19607.
