Where is Mutt in KCD2? Dogs are a man’s best friend, they say, and we would tend to agree. Henry has Mutt, his trusty pup, who goes missing after you and yours get jumped at the lake. It’s up to you to find Mutt, and while you do begin with a vague search area, the dense woods and often aggressive wildlife make the search quite difficult.

While you don’t necessarily have to search for Mutt, you would be missing out on a loyal companion if you abandon him. Not to mention there’s an entire KCD2 skill tree dedicated to Houndmaster abilities going unused if you don’t reunite with your four-legged friend. Pull up your KCD2 map, here’s how to find Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Mutt.

KCD2 Mutt quest walkthrough

To track down Mutt, follow the marker on the map to the edge of the pond; it’s close to where you made your escape earlier in the game. You’ll find a bandit searching through the pockets of a corpse. You can sweet-talk him or draw swords, either way, he’ll be gone from the scene after your interaction. A few meters away from the corpse is a half-eaten deer, which you can examine to prompt the next step of the quest.

Questioning whether Mutt may have bitten the deer’s corpse, Henry believes Bozhena may know where to find his faithful companion. Take a short ride to her hut and ask about your dog. She knows nothing but suggests that either the fisherman nearby or the innkeeper at Zhelejov would know something.

Take a short ride to Zhelejov, or use KCD2 fast travel if you’ve been there before, and ask the innkeeper about Mutt. He hasn’t seen your dog but mentions a pack of wolves that have been roaming around the area. From here, head across the pond and speak to the fisherman.

The fisherman hasn’t spotted Mutt, but he will point you in the direction of a local shepherd. Follow the map marker to the shepherd’s hut, and speak to Siegfried.

The wolves have been terrorizing Siegfried and his flock, and he mentions that there may have been a dog among the pack, but to find out more you’ll have to dispatch the aggressive animals yourself. You and Siegfried formulate a plan: take a ram to near a birch tree, and set a trap.

It’s here that you’ll meet Ignatius – a strangely intelligent ram who has the unfortunate job of being your bait for the wolf hunt. Ignatius will follow you so long as you have a carrot in your inventory, so head up the hill, following the map marker until you reach a forked birch tree.

Drop the carrots from your inventory onto the ground near the split tree, then take your place in the nearby bushes. You can hold Left Alt to focus on the spot you need to be. From here, simply wait for the wolves to arrive.

Once the wolves appear, it’s time to jump into action: pull your sword and dispatch the animals as fast as you can to keep Ignatius alive (this isn’t essential, just nice). You’ll notice that there is, in fact, a dog among the wolves’ number, but it isn’t Mutt. Head back to Siegfried and let him know that his wolf problem has been taken care of (if you fail to kill the wolves, you can lie to Siegfried, but he might see through your ruse).

From here, you’re directed to Vostatek, the Gamekeeper. Vostatek won’t be at home if you’ve yet to complete the Lackey KCD2 quest, so you might have to take a detour if he’s still stuck up that tree. Thankfully, he knows a lot about the surrounding area, and tells you that there’s a pack of wolves just south of Nomad’s Camp.

Follow the map marker to the area south of Nomad’s Camp, then follow the trail of dead animals. This will trigger a cutscene where you’re finally reunited with Mutt, but you also have a pack of hungry wolves to contend with.

Defeat this pack using your newfound Houndmaster skills and a bit of elbow grease. You can chat with Mutt afterward and see how he’s been getting on. We aren’t sure if Henry can actually understand what his dog is saying, but we like to think he can. Explore the cave to find a cuirass and sword that can either be used or sold for a tidy profit, then make your way back to civilization with your pup.
