How To Farm Breaches In Path Of Exile 2

Breach is one of the most consistent currency-farming mechanics in Path of Exile 2. It requires little to no setup, and you can easily liquidate most of the loot. While you should be able to farm it with any character, builds having a good clear-speed are exceptional at it.

By running Breaches, you can farm Breach Splinters, Catalysts, Breach Rings, and even a bunch of raw currency items. This guide will walk you through everything there is to know about effectively farming Breaches, recommended Atlas Tree, and some tips to make the most out of it.

Path of Exile 2 is currently in Early Access – the details below may change over time.

How Breach Works?

Player standing next to a Breach encounter in Path of Exile 2. Interacting with the Purple Hand starts the Breach encounter.

You can randomly find naturally-spawned Breach encounters while exploring the Atlas. They are denoted by a purple hand coming out of the ground.

Alternatively, you can also force it using various Precursor Tablets.

Once you enter a Waystone with the Breach encounter, look for a purple hand sprouting from the ground. Interact with it to start the Breach encounter. When you interact with the Breach, a circle will begin to expand outward. On the edges of this circle, monsters will continue to spawn. Your objective is to defeat as many monsters as you possibly can.

Unlike the original Path of Exile, the Breach is not on a fixed timer. If you are able to defeat monsters fast enough, the circle (the Breach itself) will continue to expand. Failing to do so will result in the Breach shrinking before closing down completely.

While working on the Breach, pay attention to Clasped Hands, which spawn inside the circle – interact with them to get random loot, like Divine Orb

, Exalted Orb

, etc.

Farming Breaches

Player forcing the Breach encounter by using a Precursor Tablet in a Lost Tower in the endgame Atlas.

Since your objective is to defeat monsters as quickly as possible to make the most out of the Breach, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Builds that can defeat multiple packs of monsters simultaneously are incredible. For example, Lightning Arrow, Spark, etc. are exceptional at farming Breach.
  • If possible, try to incorporate some AoE into your builds. You can easily do this by adding Auras like
    Herald of Thunder

    ,
    Herald of Ice

    , and
    Herald of Ash

    to your builds.

  • Support Gems like
    Pierce

    ,
    Chain

    ,
    Fork

, etc. can help you defeat monsters that are offscreen. This can keep the Breach open for longer, increasing your chances of getting valuable loot.

Monsters can easily overwhelm you from all sides, so try to have some sort of defensive layer. More than 2,000 HP, capped Elemental Resistances, Chaos Inoculation, Armor, Evasion, etc. are generally good. Instead of following a straight path, try to clear around the edges.

This will help you target the maximum number of monsters. We also recommend interacting with the Breach after you have fully cleared the map. This will prevent you from running into random monsters, allowing you to solely focus on the Breach.

Use your buffs, like Sigil of Power

immediately after interacting with the Breach. It can give you a much-needed DPS boost to get started.

Rewards

Player bulk-buying Breachstone, one of the things that you can farm by running Breaches in Path of Exile 2.

Breach is one of the most rewarding endgame mechanics in Path of Exile 2. From raw currency to Breach Rings, Breachstone

, and Catalysts, there are a lot of desirable items. Here is a quick overview of everything you can get from Breach:

Reward

Description

Breach Splinters

You need 300 Breach Splinter

to create a Breachstone

. When used at the Realmgate, it lets you enter the Twisted Domain to fight Xesht, We That Are One. You need to kill Xesht multiple times to get Breach Passive Points. Other than that, you can also farm Uniques including Controlled Metamorphosis

, Hand of Wisdom and Action

, Xoph’s Blood

, etc.

Catalysts

There are several types of Catalysts that you can get from Breach. When applied on jewelery, they enhance certain modifiers. For example, Flesh Catalyst

enhances Life modifiers.

Breach Rings

Specifically found from the Breach, these can get 50% quality compared to nonBreach rings. When fully-catalyzed, these Breach Rings can get an absurd amount of different modifiers like Mana, Life, Attributes, etc.

Raw Currency

Breach is an excellent source of raw currency, including Divine Orb

, Exalted Orb

, Chaos Orb

, etc.

Breach Atlas Passive Tree

The recommended Atlas Passive Tree to farm Breach in Path of Exile 2. It focuses on Pack Size, Monster Density, and effects of Precursor Tablets.

Similar to our other endgame strategies, you need to have eight Breach Passive Points to make the most out of this mechanic. Each time you kill Xesht, We That Are One, you get two Breach Passive Points.

However, to unlock all eight Passive Points, each kill must be on a higher difficulty.

Below, we have detailed the Passive Points that we recommend allocating:

Passive Point

Effect

Crumbling Walls

This is an excellent node that spawns multiple Breaches on a single map. If you are just getting started, this is the first node you should allocate.

Frantic Invasion

If you want to farm Xesht or bulksell Breachstones, you need to get Frantic Invasion. This node greatly increases the amount of Breach Splinters you get.

Rising Pyre

This substantially increases the number of monsters that the Breach can spawn.

Sustained Siege

For the last node, we recommend Sustained Siege. It slows down the expansion speed of the Breach by 30%, allowing you to clear it more comfortably.

As for the Atlas Tree, focus on getting increased Pack Size, Monster Density, effects of Precursor Tablets, etc. We also recommend using Distilled Emotions that increase Item Rarity, Pack Size, etc.
