How To Beat Zicoatl, Warden Of The Core
Zicoatl is a mostly stationary boss that has a recharging shield, protecting it from some damage. If Zicoatl doesn’t take damage for long enough, its shield will recharge.
Here are each of the attacks it will use, and how to dodge them.
Attack |
Description |
Notes |
---|---|---|
Laser Field |
Zicoatl will fire several parallel lasers to its front. |
The lasers will move forward as they are fired. Get to either side of the boss to avoid these. |
Snake Pummel |
Zicoatl’s snakes will repeatedly attack the area to its front. |
Watch for the first strike then move away or to either side of the boss to avoid this attack. |
Laser Grid |
The masks on the walls will fire lasers at Zicoatl, dealing damage. |
The lasers will have a faint outline before firing; watch for the light blue lines connecting the masks and the boss and move accordingly to dodge. |
Triangle Trap |
A red triangle will appear around Zicoatl that will charge up for a few seconds, then create shockwaves of damage from all three sides of the triangle. |
Move to one of the vertices between the sides of the triangle to avoid this attack. |
Laser Limbo |
Zicoatl will fire a laser line forward that deals damage while moving, then persists on the field. |
Dodge to either side to avoid the line as it moves, then stay away from it while it remains in the arena. |
Laser Grid Rebound |
After a Laser Grid attack, the masks on the walls will fire additional lasers at each other, creating an intersecting grid of lasers around the arena. This attack will be repeated up to three times. |
Similar to the normal Laser Grid attack, the lasers will be telegraphed by faint blue lines. Watch for these so you know where to move. |
Zicoatl’s attacks mainly deal lightning damage, so increasing this resistance will greatly improve your survivability.
Zicoatl’s strongest attack, Triangle Trap, deals massive damage, and can easily one-shot you, but is fairly easy to dodge if you know where to go. When you see Zicoatl stand up and the red triangle begins to form, quickly move to one of its vertices to avoid taking damage. This attack has a relatively long animation, so this is also a good time to get some damage in.
For the most part, Zicoatl’s attacks can be dodged by moving to the left or right. Stick close to the boss and dodge when its attacks come.
Besides that, just watch out for each of Zicoatl’s laser attacks, and you’ll be fine. Remember, these attacks are telegraphed with faint blue lines, so move out of the way to avoid getting hit.
