How To Beat Xyclucian, The Chimera

Here are each of the attacks Xyclucian will use during this fight, as well as tips for avoiding them.

Attack

Description

Notes

Slam

Xyclucian will roar before slamming down its front legs, creating a shockwave of damage from its position.

When the boss roars, get far away or prepare to dodge to avoid this attack.

Ice Breath

The Chimera will breathe ice from its right head, covering the area around it in ice that deals continuous damage.

The area of this attack is deceptively big and deals a lot of damage, so get far away from the boss when you see its right head poised to breathe ice.

Jump Slam

Xyclucian will leap into the air slightly before slamming down, dealing damage where it lands.

The boss will land a short distance ahead of where it jumped. Keep this in mind when moving to avoid the attack.

Flamethrower

The Chimera’s center head will shoot out a wave of fire.

Xyclucian will sweep its head back and forth during this attack, making the entire cone to its front dangerous. Move behind the boss to stay safe.

Stone Pillar

Xyclucian will fly to one of the stone pillars and land on top of it, then shoot fireballs at you.

Destroying the stone pillar will cause it to topple, bringing Xyclucian down and making it vulnerable for a few seconds.

Flying Flamethrower

Xyclucian will fly into the air before breathing fire down onto the arena.

The boss will move in a mostly straight line while performing this attack, so if you can move behind it, you’ll be relatively safe for the duration.

Poison Lob

Xyclucian will shoot out balls of poison from its tail in a cone to its front that explode when they hit the ground, dealing damage in a small area and inflicting Poisoned.

Due to the number of poison projectiles, it’s difficult not to get hit by at least a few of them in a row, which can be lethal. However, this attack does not hit behind the boss, making that a safe place.

Lightning Breath

The Chimera’s left head will shoot out orbs of lightning that move around for a moment before exploding.

Watch for the trajectory of these projectiles and move accordingly to avoid them.

Flying Slam

Xyclucian will leap into the air, disappearing for a second, then drop back down, dealing damage where it lands.

It can be difficult to see this attack coming, but if you dodge as soon as the Chimera reappears in the air, you should be safe.

Xyclucian will be invulnerable during each of its jumping, flying, or leaping attacks, which can make it difficult to deal consistent damage. When Xyclucian goes invulnerable, focus on dodging and avoiding damage so that you’re ready for when you can attack the boss again.

While you should do your best to avoid each of Xyclucian’s attacks, its Ice Breath and Poison Lob attacks are by far the most dangerous, and can easily kill you if you’re not careful.

Xyclucian uses all three types of elemental damage, so boosting each of your resistances equally is preferred for this fight. Focus on increasing whichever of your elemental resistances is lowest so that you are equally prepared for each of Xyclucian’s attacks.

For the most part, Xyclucian’s back is the safest place to be during this fight. Most of its attacks, including its Flamethrower, Poison Lob, and Lightning Breath, can’t hit behind the boss, so you’re safest there.

When Xyclucian lands on the stone pillars, be sure to destroy them as quickly as possible. This will cause Xyclucian to topple to the ground and writhe around for a few seconds, giving you a lot of time to focus on dealing damage.
