How The Straw Hat Pirates Will Surpass The Roger Pirates 

The Elbaf arc of One Piece is underway and it sees the Straw Hats being truly tested for the first time in the Final Saga. After the events of the Wano Arc, the Straw Hat Pirates were promoted to the rank of Yonko, although they weren’t properly tested as a crew. Egghead served as a short test for some members of the crew, such as Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, but the vast majority of the crew remained untested.

Furthermore, even among those who Oda tested, fans know that no proper battles were observed. As such, Elbaf is where the true level of the Straw Hat Pirates is going to be shown as a Yonko crew in One Piece, and this is also where fans will finally get a clear picture of the level that they’re supposed to reach, that is, the level of the Roger Pirates.

The Roger Pirates are the most famed pirate crew in the world of One Piece and for good reason. They’re incredibly powerful, as is expected of the Pirate King’s crew, and even drawing comparisons to the Yonko crews of One Piece wouldn’t be fair. Traditionally, the Yonko crews of One Piece see a powerful Emperor, who is then followed by three powerful underlings. These underlings, however, are nowhere close to the Yonko in terms of power. For instance, Big Mom was the mightiest of the Big Mom Pirates, and although she could compete with Roger back in the day, there is absolutely no way that her underlings could even hold a candle to Rayleigh and Gaban. Similarly, Kaido is strong enough to hold his own against Roger, but King and Queen together wouldn’t be able to get past either Rayleigh or Scopper Gaban.

The Red Hair Pirates can be an exception here, as Oda himself stated through Brannew that this crew has the best balance of all the Emperor crews and they have high bounties across the board. Though, that is just in theory, and fans will actually have to see how they compare to the Roger Pirates.

Clearly, the strength of the Roger Pirates was on a completely different level. Roger himself was on a different level when compared to the Yonko of the One Piece world. The only one strong enough to fight him was Whitebeard. Meanwhile, Roger’s right and left-hand men, Rayleigh and Scopper Gaban, were both monsters in their own right and strong enough to rival Roger himself. Essentially, this one crew was carrying three Yonko, which is unheard of in One Piece. Even the Whitebeard Pirates, who were monstrously powerful, can’t compare to the Roger Pirates at their peak. By far, they’re the mightiest crew that fans have seen in One Piece so far, and that goes without saying.

The Strength Of The Straw Hat Pirates Right Now

The Straw Hat Pirates Need To Get Stronger

When compared to the Roger Pirates, the Straw Hat Pirates are nowhere close in power at the moment on any level. Luffy himself is strong, but he isn’t as strong as Roger at the moment. Similarly, Zoro is powerful, but nowhere close to Rayleigh’s level, while Sanji is way off Gaban’s current power level as well. It is clear for the fans to see that despite being a Yonko crew, the Straw Hat Pirates are way off currently, and that they need a significant power boost.

This power boost will likely come in the Elbaf arc, where the crew meet Scopper Gaban, a former Roger Pirate. As Gaban tests Luffy, he will also know where he is lacking, and what he needs to do next to reach a new level of strength. More than that, the Holy Knights, who are all very powerful, are currently on Elbaf, at least four of them. Their presence means that the Straw Hat Pirates will have to step up greatly and defend the country from them. Luffy will have to fight and potentially beat Shamrock, while the others will have to step up greatly as well.

All the Straw Hats should be expected to hit a new power level in Elbaf, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see that.

The fact is that by the time Luffy meets Shanks, he should have reached a level comparable to him, which in itself makes him comparable to Roger. Furthermore, Luffy promised Shanks that he would make a crew better than his own, which, once again, means that his crewmates must also be stronger. Zoro needs to be stronger than Ben while Sanji needs to be on a similar level. Every other underling, from Robin to Chopper, must all raise their level, because otherwise, it’ll be impossible for them to achieve their dreams.

Luffy Must Go Beyond Roger

The Straw Hat Pirates reaching the level of the Roger Pirates is a given. After all, Luffy will become the Pirate King eventually and when that happens, he should be mighty enough to hold his own next to legends like Whitebeard and Roger. Roger himself said that he believed someone would come and surpass them, which is set up for the Straw Hats to do the impossible.

But, while this is great enough on its own, it is clear that the Straw Hat Pirates will eventually go on to surpass Roger and his crew. Roger didn’t even attempt what Joy Boy did, which was fighting the World Government, and Joy Boy tried but failed. Luffy, however, will have to succeed where the others failed. Whereas the Roger Pirates peaked after finding the One Piece, Luffy and the crew will have one more obstacle to reach and surpass. This essentially means that Luffy and his crew will actually go on to surpass Roger and his crew.

Luffy will be the strongest in the whole world and its history, including the likes of Joy Boy, while Zoro and Sanji will have far surpassed the likes of Rayleigh and Gaban, both of whom are legends in their own right. The Straw Hat Pirates will be on a completely different level come the end of the story, and that is factual. Even Roger and his crew won’t be able to compare to them, and this is the level required to save the world and establish a completely new era after 800 years of misery. For now, fans simply have to sit back and watch.
